User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8 The Firefox 0.9RC installer overwrites, rather than preserves, any existing settings, including existing bookmarks. In other words: all my precious bookmarks have gone away! Also my Toolbar Layout has been reset. Don't be worse than IE in this respect please, cause for the rest you are far better. You rock! Related to this: the installer tries to install in the "default" install location (in my case under "D:\Program Files\...") rather than in the EXISTING Firefox location (which in my case is under "C:\Program Files\..."). I already CHOSE to install somewhere else, so why is Firefox stubborn to want to install to the default location? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have 0.8 installed with e.g. lot of interesting bookmarks 2. Start FirefoxSetup-0.9rc.exe 3. See everything gone Actual Results: They all went away. The bookmarks. And the Toolbar Layout. Expected Results: Preserve, preserve, preserve.
This sounds similar to Bug 246086. Is it possible Firefox is missing the old profile in certain instances and thus creating a new profile importing from IE instead?
Sorry about the spam, my mistake. That should be Bug 246018.

No. Firefox imported nothing from my existing IE. It also imported nothing from my existing Firefox. It's all gone in Firefox. No booksmarks but the ones you get with a clean install, except nothing gets imported from IE either.
Frits, if you start Firefox 0.8 do your bookmarks come back? If so then this is almost certainly a dupe of Bug 246018 as mentioned in comment 1.

Yes, they have now mysteriously returned :-) I'm glad. Everything seems fine now, all my old settings are back. I also liked the old design (theme) much better (the button in the toolbars). Will this be available in the new release too? What will be its name?

Oh, it now also remembered where I put the already-installed version. So 0.9RC has some major bugs introduced that 0.8 did not have...
OK this problem of not bringing your bookmarks over to the new version is Bug 246018. It was fixed earlier today so when you try the final version of 0.9 you shouldn't have this issue anymore. And for reference the old theme was called Qute and is available for 0.9 here: http://www.quadrone.org/graphics/ Marking this bug as a duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 246018 ***

You guys are quick, I'm impressed :-)
