After finishing installer firefox doen't come up. Kill the firefox task will make win95 unstable. After restarting win95 the first firefox start will crash (cannot send a TB cause the TalkBack Server seems to have problems). After this firefox works nicely. I know win95 is unsupported, but it works normaly, so it should a repairable bug.
What version of FireFox were you testing? If you choose not to run FF from the installer, can you then open it normally?

I have a similar behaviour with Firefox 0.9.1 under Windows 95: Firefox crashes at the first start and whenever "Import ..." from the "File" menu is selected. Beside this, firefox runs stable so far. As the Windows 95 installation is rather old, outdated system files may be the cause. Otherwise, this bug may be related to bug 248215.

Aaron excuse for the missing info's. It was a firefox latest-0.9 nightly build (will try next week with a newer one). If you don't start it directly from the installer, it will crash by the first normal call.

Alexander: Still problems with TalkBack servers?

Yes, I've still problems, cause I'm behind firewall and a blind proxy and this seems to make the talkback client unhappy. But IMHO the talkback client makes normal HTTP connections. Haven't find a solution or someone who knows one.

If you start Talkback, in Setting | Options... is proxy configuration on tab "proxy Server". Doesn't this help?

Chris Blore: Did you try it on Win95? My last test was with Win95 and FF 1.0.4 and it still crashs. Please don't close my bugs without asking. But last time the TB Agent didn't start :-/

I have tested with both Firefox 1.0.4 and Firefox 1.0+ nightlies and could not reproduce any crash on Win95. I apologise for being a bit trigger happy on the resolving but Windows 95 is also no longer supported officially by the MoFo and I was unable to reproduce under any circumstances. I'll leave the bug open, however.

I'll leave the bug open, however. If MoFo no longer support Win 95, then I assume there is a bug somewhere to change mozilla/configure line 5561 & 5687 as well as mozilla/configure.in line 1229 & 1322 and various other places like mozilla/config, mozilla/xpinstall and mozilla/toolkit/mozapps/installer where the default operating system is set to Windows 95?

chris: Did you Try Win95 A? Or Win95 B/C? Did you try on a fresh install or with a patched Win95? (Like the unicows or special dll updates) There's another bug about install/start problems on Win95A ... if I've time I will try to find out, what special updates from MS are needed for FF 1.0.x and 1.1.x (As for Mozilla 1.7.x and "New Suite" 1.0.x). Maybe this all be the latest builds that may work on Win95.

(In reply to comment #14) > There's another bug about install/start problems on Win95A ... Maybe Win95 got the same problems like WinNT4? see Bug 276515 comment 27 down to Bug 276515 comment 30 to see what is needed to install Firefox/Thunderbird on a fresh WinNT system. A DLL must be updated or IE5 installed.
