User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8.0+

I'm using Firefox 0.9RC. When I go to Edit -> Preferences and then enter a URL
into the (currently empty) Home Page text box, the dialog then won't close when
I press OK. Pressing cancel will close the dialog, as will closing the window
directly by clicking on the X. However, if I do either of these things my
homepage setting is not actually changed.

If I open the preferences dialog and don't change anything, I can click OK to
close. If I change something else, like how many days my history should be
retained, I can click OK to close. Everything works in these cases. It looks
specific to changing the homepage setting. Weird.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Edit -> Preferences
2. Enter a valid URL into the Home Page text field.
3. Click OK.

Actual Results:
Nothing.

Expected Results:
My new homepage preference should have been applied, and the preference dialog
should have closed.
I was able to set my homepage by manually editing prefs.js in
.mozilla/firefox/default.g1y. (It was set to '' before I edited it). Should
still fix the GUI, though. :)
Is the home button off the toolbar?
The home button is on the toolbar right where I'd expect it to be.
This is busted as described right out of the box. As a workaround, you can open the page(s) you want to
set as your homepage and click the "Use Current Pages" button (instead of manually typing in the
address).
Just confirming that I'm still experiencing this bug after upgrading to 0.9.
I have got the same problem on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7)
Gecko/20040615 Firefox/0.9.

It also happens when you modify an existing entry manually.

seeing dupes, but unable to replicate this still.

Are there errors in the javascript console when this happens?
Ooh, yes. I didn't even know that console existed before you asked. Here is
the error:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80570018 (NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_IID) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570018
(NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_IID)"  location: "JS frame ::
chrome://browser/content/pref/pref-navigator.js :: onOK :: line 69"  data: no]
I get the samme error in the javascript console.

I tried it on an other computer and was able to replicate the bug (using
different linux distributions and desktops / windowmanagers, i.e. SuSE 9.0,
Knoppix 3.4, KDE 3.1.4, Gnome 2.4, windowmaker, ...). The windows version of
firefox works as expected.

No longer seeing this on linux firefox 0.9+ build 2004-07-21-11-0.9

Okay button works after manual entry of URL into homepage preference field.

I am also experiencing this comment. I'm using Firefox 0.9 on Slackware 10
distribution in Gnome 2.6.1. After setting the homepage, I press OK and the
window won't close and save settings.
w4m using 2004-07-23-14-0.9 on linux fedora 2.

resolving as w4m, but pls do reopen if this is still an issue with a recent
build on another platform (or a recent trunk build).

I'm getting this on a fresh install of Mandrake 10.0 Official (downloaded)
I've confirmed it in both KDE and Gnome, on kernel 2.4.25-2mdk and 2.6.3-7mdk
I've tried both the 9.1 and 9.3 official releases (with installer). All of the
above had this bug.

Interestingly enough, I never saw this problem on Fedora Core 1. I was using the
exact same 9.1 tarball with no problems. When 9.3 was released, I used a fedora
released rpm, still with no problems.
