Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; Q312461; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 0.6 (20040502)

When I create an email account(IMAP) and have the password inputted at the
prompt box when asked and click 'save password', and if the password is wrong,
it never prompts for password again, but keep trying to log in with out
prompting for a new password

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.add an IMAP account
2.when it is time to fetch the inbox, and when the prompt password box comes up,
deliberately put in a wrong password. Click also, save password checkbox.

Actual Results:
The program will try to log in to the server, obviously it cannot, but doesn't
come back to prompt a new password, but keep saying couldn't log in.

Expected Results:
A password input box need to pop up to have a chance to the user to input
password again.

This was working on older Thunderbirds, but not working on the latest released
and the latest nightlies.
This bug is definitely a duplicate of Bug 246291, but I believe that both this
bug and Bug 246291 should be marked as duplicates of Bug 249240.

Hello, I have been having this (or a similar) problem with IMAP since Thunderbird 3, and have posted about it under bug #249240 which has been closed as fixed. In that bug, Bienvenu mentions that the IMAP case should have its own separate bug due to regressions with the new password manager.

All of my bugzilla searches for my issue point to old dupe/closed bugs, so I am posting here in hopes that someone can at least tell me where to post.

My issue, as reported towards the end of #249240, is that when an incorrect IMAP password is entered, TB does not give any "failed login" type of message, and does not prompt for password re-entry. It keeps using the bad password, and the user is given no indication of the password failure whatsoever. The user will see any locally cached messages, but obviously no new messages from the IMAP server.

This currently is happening with the Fastmail (fastmail.fm) IMAP server, but not with another one I use, cyrus-imapd-2.3.14-3. Bienvenu says based on my debug logs that it has to do with the server disconnecting on a password failure. In case it matters, the failing instance is to port 993 with SSL/TLS and the succeeding one is to port 143 with STARTTLS.

I am seeing this today with Thunderbird 3.0.1 release and 3.0.2pre
(Shredder) and also 3.1b1pre (Lanikai). All on Windows XP.

Thanks.
