I use filters to sort incoming mail on email lists into separate folders.
It would be very useful to be able to keep certain messages; to be able to mark
them as undeletable. For example, the messages sent when you join the lists are
very useful, as well as certain others. I often file these in the relevant
folder, but end up deleting them 'by accident' and not noticing until too late.
Please consider implementing a 'do not delete' flag that can be set or reset as
required.
