Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 Refreshing the "Firefox (default) 2.0" theme displays a "No Updates Found" sheet that also has the following message and a Details button: "Firefox encountered problems trying to find updates for some items." Clicking the Details button yields the following sheet (which is jammed up in the top left corner): "Firefox could not check for updates to the following components (either the update server(s) did not respond, or the update service(s) were not found)." The list of components consists only of "Firefox (default)". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select menu item Tools > Themes 2. Click "Firefox (default) 2.0" 3. Click the Refresh button at the bottom of the Themes window Actual Results: The "No Updates Found" sheet is displayed, and contains the "Firefox could not check..." error message and Details button. Expected Results: The "No Updates Found" sheet is displayed; no error message is displayed in addition to the standard text.
My bad: Actual Results should reference the "Firefox encountered problems..." error message, NOT "Firefox could not check...", which is what displays after clicking Details.
On my proxy logs, Firefox is trying to access: http://update.mozilla.org:8080/axis/services/VersionCheck? But a simple "telnet update.mozilla.org 8080" fails. update.mozilla.org doesn't have anything listening on that port, apparently. Hardware, OS should be All.
Ive encountered this problem as well, on Windows 2000
