hi there, i just installed the latest firefox 0.9 final some days ago and
everything went fine. i guess today i closed the last running instance of
firefox, and then restarted firefox from the startmenu, and from then on, the
troubles started. firefox wouldnt start any more and crashed with doctor watson
on win2000 pro sp4 english, every time. i figured out that firefox would only
start in firefox safe mode (whatever that does). even reboots, relogin, complete
deinstall and deletion of the firefox directory didnt help. then i started
firefox safe mode and started to play around the options/settings. i discovered
that check periodically for software updates was activated with the checkboxes
"firefox" and "my extensions". i disabled both and closed ff. then i restarted
ff in normal mode, and guess what, ff just doesnt crash any more. then i
reselected the firefox softwareupdate. then restarted ff again, and the crash
experince came back. turning softwareupdate off again, fixes the firefox. whats
wrong here?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.install ff 0.9 final on win2000 pro sp4 english
2. start ff 0.9 on win2kprosp4en
3. crash experience. se above

Actual Results:
crash!

Expected Results:
no crash needed

so i guess that currently there is something wrong eiterh with the firefox
software update code, with the software update mechanisms, like the urls,
servers or scripts or something like that. right now its 11:25 pm CET
oh btw, i reported like a billion incindents with the built in talkback agent,
and also described my trouble there. its probably in some of your
talkback/bugreport logfiles associated with my email address. you guys could
also check there.

anyways, thanks for your work with firefox and the mozilla project, and good
luck for the future. cheers.
