User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040615 Firefox/0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040615 Firefox/0.9 When I go to the URL http://packages.debian.org/testing/net/bittorrent.ja.html the japanese characters are displays as odd box symbols like in this screenshot: http://www.duke.edu/~kcd6/japan-font.jpg Also, http://tbookdtd.sourceforge.net/unitest.xhtml displays the same box symbols for unicode characters. A screenshot of how that site displays for me is at: http://www.duke.edu/~kcd6/unicode.jpg At http://packages.debian.org/testing/net/bittorrent.ja.html, firefox correctly (?) changes the character encoding to "Japanese (EUC-JP)" but still does not display the correct japanese. Do I need to install any seperate japanese font or anything? It seems that a more reasonable approach would be for the browser to notify me that it cannot display the page correctly and point to a solution or download if that happens to the be problem. For the unicode page, firefox changes the character encoding to "Unicode (UTF8)", but still does not correctly display the unicode characters. I am able to reproduce all these issues in both firefox 0.9 and Mozilla 1.7 on the same computer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to http://packages.debian.org/testing/net/bittorrent.ja.html or http://tbookdtd.sourceforge.net/unitest.xhtml 2. Notice how characters are not rendered correctly 3. Actual Results: Unicode/japanese characters rendered as box symbols with hex inside. Expected Results: Rendered the actual correct character.
