RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 202226

People

(Reporter: jaap, Assigned: bugzilla)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.8
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.8

If you go to the specified URL and then click on one of the links which says
Nederlands nothing happens, also no icon is shown that a popup has been closed.
If you put www.ind.nl in the whitelist a new window is opened with the requested
pdf.

I would expect that if I click on a link that one new window can be opened if
that is the intention of the website.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Just tested the same site in mozilla 1.6. Mozilla 1.6 indicates correctly that a
popup window was blocked
The links go to pages that try to create pop-ups and then redirect to another
page. The pop-up indicator disappears because you are no longer at the URL that
tried to create a pop-up.

Why does it work correctly in mozilla 1.6 then???

Ofcourse it's evil that they make the website like this, but novice users should
get a clear indication that something was blocked.

It might be possible to fix this bug without making Firefox's behavior seem
incorrect in other circumstances. That's why I didn't mark the bug as invalid.
I see the same at this site:
http://www.radio538.nl/538/programmas/evers/frankronald.jsp#
When you click on "Luister"
Can see this with FF 0.9.2 on http://www.post.ch, then follow the links "Versand
International" (left side) and then "Service Guide Online - Preisberechnung"
(bottom right).

The interesting thing is that, if you follow that link with a fresh profile, you
get the popup-manager-first-use dialog, but no indication in the status bar.

Mozilla 1.8a1 works correctly.

Confirmed.
Can we request to set this as bug that blocks FF 1.0?? For me personally this
bug is not really a problem, because I know it exists, but for a new FF user it
can be a very frustrating bug, which makes him go back to his previous browser
Requesting blocking 1.0RC1 as per comment #8.
