User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040207 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040207 Firefox/0.8 Very strange. A co-worker asks me to help her with her browser (Firefox 0.9 on Win2k). She navigates to www.ebay.com and types: room rugs into the search box. The new page starts loading and then the browser crashes. I sent the bug report via talkback. I was able to navigate to the page successfully with IE 6 on that machine. I then reproduced the problem with Firefox 0.8 on Linux with two different machines. I have a Linux box that I run IE 6 on (under wine) and it was able to display the page correctly as well. The funny thing is that it is only specific search pages that cause the problem. I was able to search for "live ferrets" with no problems. I tried a few other strings, but the only one that I found so far that crashes the browser is "room rugs". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.navigate to ebay.com 2.enter "room rugs" into the search box 3.enjoy the crashy goodness :-/ Actual Results: crash Expected Results: page showing rugs for sale
Addendum: Mozilla 1.6 on Linux does not exhibit the problem.
please test with a latest firefox 0.9 build
(In reply to comment #2) > please test with a latest firefox 0.9 build The original problem was with Firefox 0.9 on Win2k. I was able to reproduce it in Firefox 0.8 Linux and Windows.

(In reply to comment #4) > chemist109@hotmail.com: Could you provide TalkBack incident id? Sorry to take so long to get back to this. I just reproduced the bug in Firefox 0.9.1 on Linux(Fedora Core 1). Incident id is: TB218591W I tried to get the incident details, but the talkback agent crashed :-/ Is there a way to run Firefox from the console so that I can get more output?
This should be enough.

Is this a problem with a trunk build? I can't reproduce it with a trunk SeaMonkey build... As for the stack, it's got line numbers so bogus I'm not quite sure how much to trust any of it (FindPrimaryFrameFor is near line 11100, while that stack claims to crash in that function on line 702).

I'm seeing something similar on OS X 10.3.6 running version 1.0. I'm not crashing, but here is what happens: 1. Go to ebay.com and do a search. 2. On the results page you'll see a box that shows your search term again. (NOT the "Start a new search" box at the top right). 3. In the search box modify your original search or type in a new search and enclose the search term as a phrase in SINGLE quotes 'room rug'. 4. Hit Enter or click on the search button. 5. Nothing happens. 6. Remove the quotes and hit enter, your search will be performed.
If people can't reproduce this on trunk, we should just mark this worksforme...

I am the original reporter, and somewhere between 0.9 and 1.0, this bug went away for me. I can no longer reproduce it.
