Opening a website with flash content fails because flash doesnt correctly work.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install flash plugin
2. Go to a flash enabled website, for example, www.2advanced.com > enter


Actual Results:  
Page did not show

Expected Results:  
I expected the page to load the flash content.

This worked fine with Firefox .8.

create the directory mozilla/plugins in your profile
find :
NP32DSW.DLL
NPSWF32.dll
on your system and copy these into your plugins directory.

I seemed to have both files in the plugins folder aldready, but Flash doesn't
work. So, I deleted both files as well as GetFlash and GetFlash.exe.manifest and
tried to reinstall the plugin, but that didnt work. So, I deleted the files
again [except 'NP32DSW.DLL'] and tried the solution posted, but it didnt work.
For one, I was unable to find the "NP32DSW.DLL" file on my computer. I did an
online search for it as well, but that didnt find any download links either. Not
sure how to proceed. Thanks for all your suggestions

I dont quite see what instructions there are to follow... I went to the given
website and all they have is a link to download the latest Flash from
Macromedia's website, which I have done many, many times. Am I missing
something? For reference, my second post [comment 4] was in response to the
suggestions given in comment 1.

What changed from .8 to .9 that made Flash stop working?

Flash also works for me. 0.9.1 branch nightly.

Did you uninstall or delete the Firefox installation directory? If you did, you
also deleted the "plugin" directory that was inside that held all the plugin DLLs.

When I installed .9, I let it install right over the old Firefox, so I would
guess that the plugins would be intact. I did then delete the flash plugins
manually [comment 4] and reinstall, but that did'nt work. 

Just now, I tried the last suggestion and installed the latest-trunk [6/25]
build of Firefox, with no luck. Lastly, I completely uninstalled Firefox, got
rid of the directory manually, installed the latest-trunk into a new directory,
and then installed the Flash plugin into the plugin directory, and that didnt
work.. Strangely, when I installed Firefox into a new directory and opened it
up, it still had my bookmarks and plugins and theme, wouldnt all these be
deleted if I physically deleted my other installation? Also, when I went to a
Flash enabled website with the new install (I specifically went to it before I
installed the plugin) I expected it to say something like "you need the
x-shockwave flash plugin to view this website" or whatever message that is,
however this did'nt come up, it just did what it was doing before, not showing
the flash content. 

Btw my new Firefox location is \Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox vs \Program
Files\Mozilla Firefox.

I'm thinking of just going back to the .8 release and waiting for 1.0 in the
hope that Flash will work by then [for me anyway].

**No debugging messages reported to stderr or stdout for (any) errors or
problems by the plugin.

I just tried reinstalling the flash player by downloading it from macromedia.com
and copying libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt to /opt/firefox/plugins. This
all with no luck. Here are the MD5 hashes of the files I just tried installing...

Still doesnt work for me either. I'm using the latest official Firefox build. I 
suppose I could just use the IE view extention and view pages that way, but I'd 
really like to use Firefox exclusively. Does anybody have other suggestions? If 
you need me to post any additional information please tell me. Thx again for 
your suggestions so far.

This isn't a WONTFIX. I'll get around to sorting this out later. I have some
suggestions, but I don't have time right now to write them all out. I'll revisit
this a bit later.

Ok, I got it working. I noticed that when I upgraded at home to firefox 0.9 I
did not have this issue with Macromedia Flash 6. So I tried just downgrading at
work, where I experienced this issue, today and I had the same problem described
in this bug report with flash 6.

So I checked to see if there was maybe some conflict in my preferences. I first
checked ~/.phoenix but then noticed that there was a ~/.mozilla directory. I
guess firefox 0.7+ creates this directory as its homedir. I did a search in both
directories for anything pertaining to flash, but did not find anything. 

Finally, I backed up by extension data (adblock filters mainly) and removed both
directories. I then restarted firefox and went to www.macromedia.com and the
flash worked this time! I then upgraded back to flash 7 and it still works. 

Whatever the case was that was preventing flash from running was due to
something within ~/.mozilla or ~/.phoenix. I would suggest removing these and
and trying again. 

Remember to backup any adblock filters you may have :)
