Threaded view enabled in both cases. If a new message arrives for a newsgroup thread, this thread should be placed at the top of the list, when "sort by date descending threaded" is selected. But it stays where it is, and this may be some pages further down where I won't see it. Re-clicking on the already selected "descending" in the sort menu helps to re-sort threads correctly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. See threaded newsgroup view 2. Send a message to a thread some pages down 3. See the thread doesn't come up but gets marked as unread Actual Results: see steps Expected Results: correct sorting as selected

I don't think, this is the same as 227722. That one says, mail gets sorted by the first message, not the last. This is not correct, mail does get sorted by the last message. But the behaviour is inconsistend, which makes me feel unsafe with TB. When new mail arrives in the newsgroup, it's just added to the thread, but that thread is not sorted correctly then. When I select the *already selected* "descending" menu item, it's sorted correctly. This should be done in the moment new mail arrives, right?

Well, you might be right about the cause of the problem (an update is needed when new mail arrives, as oposed to a bad sort criteria), but it still is the same problem: the threads are not in the correct order after new mail arrives. So I think is more useful to discuss this in a single bug, then having separate ones.

Yves is correct, this problem is quite separate from that in the purported dupe. This bug appears similar to bug 207766. Threads are not dynamically repositioned in the thread pane when new items arrive for them. Instead, the threads are ordered within the pane according to which ones first get new messages during the message retrieval. The simple workaround is to either click the column header (twice, if it's default) or to exit the group and re-enter, which will resort the existing threads.
