User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040709 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040709 For Mozilla 1.7 and the current 1.8 snapshot I cannot use a remote $DISPLAY. Mozilla just sits there and does nothing. The old 1.6 works. Any idea what has changed between 1.6 and 1.7 to trigger this problem? . Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. My Xserver is an AMD64 machine running Debian (pure64). Window manager is twm or fvwm. Mozilla is the _only_ application showing this problem.

Does it happen with a new profile too?
Did you try with mozilla 1.7.1 ? Or even building it ?
Yes, it happens with a new profile, too. I haven't tried 1.7.1 yet. But I grabbed the CVS snapshot of today, compiled and installed it: Same problem. Firefox does _not_ have this problem. Actually, Firefox works pretty well on amd64, soI have no reason to use it on a remote machine. I did not check thunderbird.
