Details

(Keywords: crash)

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040712 Firefox/0.9.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040712 Firefox/0.9.1

Regular crashes when attempting to respond to a comment on Livejournal
[http://www.livejournal.com] (the new comments system seems to cause this) or
when searching or browsing some sections of eBay.co.uk. Notably recently doing
an open search for "dlp" causes a crash as the search page is loading.

Calling firefox from the console causes the following error on both instances:
<code>/usr/bin/firefox: line 388: 28446 Segmentation fault $mozbin "$@"</code>

Reproduction is mostly, but not always. Once or twice the livejournal comments
have worked, but only very rarely.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.ebay.co.uk
2. type "dlp" into the search box
3. click search

OR

1. Go to http://www.livejournal.com and find a post with comments
2. Click the "reply to this" link

Actual Results:
Firefox crashed completely, giving the following error (if launched from a
console):

/usr/bin/firefox: line 388: 28446 Segmentation fault $mozbin "$@"

Expected Results:
Not crashed.

Haven't had this problem on linux64 or win32, only seems applicable (to me)
under 32bit Linux (gentoo specifically). Firefox was compiled from source on
this machine.

No, sorry: Firefox is compiled from source on my system, afaik this means I am
unable to have TalkBack support.
And could you reproduce bug with Firefox 0.9.x nightly build?
Also occurs (99% cpu util; I do an End Task) on
http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml
I am using Firefox 0.9.2 (it also happened on 0.9.1) on XP Professional. A
friend of mine thinks it might be bad livejournal code, but Internet Explorer
handles it fine.

This has happened 100% of the time. (I've done it about 4 times on separate
occasions in the past three days on both 0.9.1 and 0.9.2; I switched from 0.8 on
Monday.)

I don't know what else to add. I'm also unfamiliar with Bugzilla and usage
around here, so if you need me to do anything, I might need hand-holding.(In

Happens to me as well on XP Professional using 0.9.3.

I think out of the last ten times I've tried to leave a comment, I've only been
able to do so once. It freezes (I have to End Task) almost 100% of the time; I
have no indication of what it was doing at the time other than a message on the
status bar that says "Transferring data from stat.livejournal.com"---and it
ALWAYS says this when it freezes, so it appears that whatever is causing it to
freeze is doing it at the same point in the page loading.
I'm using:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3

This kind of crashing/hanging is ALWAYS reproducible when trying to load:

http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml

It requires an external kill of the process; hangs indefinitely. It also occurs
sporadically when trying to load comments pages.

I was looking around bugzilla, and came across a similar bug (actually, I think
this is a duplicate of it, but the descriptions are slightly different), and
they had an interesting workaround.

The reason that FF is crashing is because you have a username and password saved
for livejournal (I'm guessing the same is for eBay too, maybe?). If you go into
your saved passwords and remove the saved password for the reply pages, it will
load again.
Can someone who can reproduce this bug provide a talkback ID? Please post it in
bug 241906.
