I think this would be a valuable addition to Thunderbird (if a bit eye-candy-ish)
Well, as long as the patch being discussed in bug 20417 also includes support for x-image-url (not quite clear from reading the comments), i suppose this is a dupe of that bug
It's pretty clear that the current patch does not provide for anything more than X-Face. There are requests for clarification as to whether it should stop there, though.
