User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.40607) Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 0.7.2 (20040707) The subject pretty much says it all; no matter what order I install them in, Word and Excel 2003 will not recognize that Thunderbird is set to be the default mail client, and will "grey out" the menu item to send to a mail recipient. I need this to work. I have Thunderbird set as the default email and newsgroup client in the Internet Properties | Programs options. Also, I used "Set program access and defaults" to set it as my email client, and I removed access to Outlook Express. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks, chris. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Microsoft Office 2003 and Thunderbird (any order) 2. After setting up an account in Thunderbird, go into Microsoft Word 2003. 3. Go to File | Send To and you will find that the option to send via email (Send to | Mail Receipient) is greyed out, indicating that Word does not recognize Thunderbird as an email application. Actual Results: Nothing. Expected Results: Ideally, "Send to | Mail Receipient as Attachment" should be available, and should open Thunderbird's compose window with the current document attached. I tried installing Outlook 2003 to see if it was just a problem with my Word install. After installing Outlook, I was able to send email with Outlook. Additionally, I was able to use "Set program access and defaults" to set my default mail client to Thunderbird, and it worked! So, what is happening when I install Outlook that isn't happening in the Thunderbird MAPI config???

dup of bug 202497?

I don't believe this is a dupe of bug #202497... as I understand it, 202497 deals with being able to register Mozilla as the default mail/news client in Windows -- ie, becoming the default URL handler for mailto: and news: items. That part DOES work; when I click on a mailto: link in IE, a Thunderbird compose windows pops up that's pre-populated with the correct address and subject, etc. However, I think this bug is a different part of the MAPI problem; there is something incomplete about Thunderbird's MAPI implementation that makes it the default URL handler, but not the simple MAPI messaging agent. Or, it could be that Microsoft changed something in Office 2003 so that it needs something more. Or, I could be talking out of my ass and have no idea what I'm saying. (IANACoder.) chris.

A similar bug is the following: 1. I use the filemanager "total commander" by Christian Ghisler under win 2000 sp4 and xp sp1. Mozilla Mail is my default mail application. When I try to send a file via the context menu "send to - mail-Empfaenger" mozilla opens with the mail dialog but total commander crashes reproducible. First it seems to be a problem of the total commander, but this also happens with the explorer. I found that both on a win 2000 and a windows xp machine. 2. When I try to change the default mail program from mozilla to another mail program in the internet options mozilla remains standard mail program, also after rebooting. When I delete the value "mozilla" in registry key "standard" in HKLM Software\clients\Mail, both total commander and explorer do not crash after using "send to menu" best regards Ruediger Kramer Berlin
