It continues so after a while I just have to quit T-Bird to make it stop. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.switch out of Thunderbird and wait a few seconds 2. 3. Actual Results: The "New Mail" indicator appeared with no new messages Expected Results: It should wait until there are new messages to display the icon.
Are there just no messages in the inbox or aren't there any messages on the server too? So if you click Get Mail after the new mail indicator comes up, do you get mail or not?

There are no new messages in the InBox or on the server. Even if I read every one of my messages it still appears.. Yes, when i click get mail it does retrieve the mail off of the server just fine.
So the indicator is right, but just nothing downloaded, yes? In the server settings, did you also check "Automatically download new messages" or just "Check for new messages every # minutes"?

[ edit : the program requires me to submit my comments as resolved ! but it is not ! ] Not sure how the bug system works - but I was researching an issue I have - found this bug # and am now hoping I can inform you this bug is still present. TB 1.0 Mac OS X 10.3.7 See also current discussion please: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=198160 I can be doing whatever on my computer, in any app, and the TB icon will start bouncing (1). Switch to TB. Nowhere is a # added or new message to be found. A manual check mail does not download messages. The frequency of this bug can be every 10min (auto check time). icerabbit [at] earthlink [dot] net
How to I get this bug updated and the status changed to UN-resolved. I have sent a message to the person assigned to this thread a while back, but not heard anything nor seen a change in status, or reply in the mentioned forum. This bug pesters me continuously. I have 3 pop accounts which TB checks. The TB dockling jumps that there is 1 new message countless times. I have marked all images as read numerous times. Minutes later (mail check every 10 minutes) the dockling is back indicating 1 new message ... and keeps bouncing till I go to the app. I go to TB - no new messages. 10 minutes later. Same thing. Over and over.
Are you just checking for new mail without downloading the new mail?
Hi David, Thanks for the reply. No. TB is set to check for email & download anything that is on the server. I will alert repeatedly (bouncing one new message dockling) over and over (every 10 mins) without any new mail arriving. Something - and I'm not alone experiencing this (-see forum thread if you have a moment) - makes TB prompt this in error. I've marked all my folders & mail as read. It'll prompt there's 1 new message but nowhere is there one to be found. Swith back to what I was doing. 10 minutes later it's back? The alert for your reply came in 10 min ago. TB is bouncing the dockling again. No new message marked in any folder. Anything you're aware of that I and the others with this problem can try. Any extra information we should provide? Thanks. Frank
- again I can only leave status as "resolved" which it is not - Mac OS 10.4.2 Tiger - TB 1.0.6 Problem still persists. TB checks mail for my pop accounts (with retrieving msgs from all servers set as pref), I read - delete - junk the mail in the master inbox, sort to folders. Switch out of TB. 10 minutes later the dockling comes back with (n) new messages. Go back to TB. No new mail. Go to other app. 10 min later dockling is back. Again, no new mail visible in TB. I've marked for all folders all mail as read, deleted the junk & emptied the trash, so all counters are 0. Problem persists. Interesting development: I just reset every counter 10 min ago. Switched away to something else. + 10 minutes: bouncing TB (4) Nothing new in any folder. Not in junk either. Now, I know there's one particular email pending (change password). So I switch to TB with dockling (4) in error indicated. Once TB gets focus dockling (4) goes away. I click on "get mail" and 5 messages are downloaded. 4 are "junkers" of which one moves to junk, 3 land in global inbox + 1 new message & dockling indicator says (1) Will see how I can perhaps actively reproduce behavior in upcoming days, but something is buggy.
For the past several days I've monitored the behavior. Bug has occured several times. At some point (which may not happen for several hours or days) for an unknown reason to me (I'm on broadband, system is usuallly left on, check mail every 10 min, do not leave on server) TB sees emails on the server, but does not download them. This can happen both while the computer is "inactive" (user away from machine, but system is set to put only the screen to sleep) or while you're behind the system. I sees # of emails, doesn't download it/them, but reports it/them with a 1-2-3... in the Mac OS dockling. You switch to TB, no new email visible with the new indicator nor have any folder counters changed. Dockling drops the new 1-2-3... Go back to other application and at the 10 min interval, it does exactly the same. It repeats this "alert without grabbing the email" until I do a manual get mail. Then it goes away. It would appear I experience this with earthlink.net & adelphia.net. 2 of my 4 pop mail accounts. The emails in question are always junk. Is there any log I can check, or logging I can activate to see if there is a communication error or something else that is traceable?

I am also getting this error - I am using 1.0.5 on Windows. I'm not sure what is the root cause, but I think it started occuring after I created a search folder to get all unread emails. Since then I have removed the search folder, but I still get the mail notification telling me I have 4 new emails (I currently have 5 unread in separate folders, so this is wrong).

I did use Thunderbird almost every day with the 'new mail arrived' warning enabled since its maiden release 1.0 and I have never experienced this phenomena.
closing WFM based on comment 10. but if you still see this when using version 2, please comment. FWIW, bug 253341 looks headed to closing. bug 279783, which may involve filters, perhaps less likely.
