User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040707 Firefox/0.9.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040707 Firefox/0.9.2
When I go to a page, such as signin.ebay.com that I have a saved password for,
the username field is filled in but the password field is not. In prior
Mozilla browsers, a dialog would come up asking for my master password and, if
it was correct, fill in the appropriate password for the site. In Firefox this
does not happen, I have to click login (which results in a "failed login"
screen) before Firefox even offers the "enter your master password" dialog.
Even then, no password is filled in when the correct master password is given.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to a site that requires a password and enter username and password.
2. Say yes to save the password for the site (to reproduce this might need to
have a master password set).
3. Close down the browser (to clear the password cache?) (or wait a few minutes
for the master password to be required again).
4. Reopen the browser and return to the same site.
5. If results are the same as for me, the username should be filled in (that
might be a result of a cookie though) but no password. Click "login" or
equivalent and dialog for master password should be given (in Mozilla (not
Firefox) this came up before clicking Login.
Actual Results:
Doing this resulted in a "login attempt failed" type of page. Again, there is
no password entered in the appropriate place.
Expected Results:
The "enter master password" dialog should come up when first going to a site for
which a password has been saved. Entering the correct master password should
result in the appropriate password for that page to be entered into the
appropriate space. Then login cane be accomplished without error. This is how
the Mozilla browser (version 1.7 and several prior versions), worked.
using the default Firefox theme.

this is intermittent, sometimes I am asked for my security manager password
before I fill in the fields (good thing), sometimes it requires my password
after I have entered my information (not too useful) and, more rarely, it
doesn't ask for my security manager password at all when I go to a site that I
know I have information for.
Password manager never fills in saved passwords for me. Ever. It never has. I do
not have a master password set.

Password manager only displays user ID(s) for the first window opened, i.e., not
for tabbed windows (W2K Pro, Firefox 1.0). Happens every time (reproducible)

Microsoft Keyboard with fingerprint reader (Password Manager) is not supported
by Firefox. Does anybody write an extension?

WORKSFORME, however, all passwords saved by Password Manager appear to be tied
to exact URLs. Thus if I explicitly go to https://signin.ebay.com/ (either by
typing in that exact string or by using a bookmark) my password gets filled in,
but if I go to some other page on ebay (for instance, an item I am bidding on)
and ebay redirects me to a login screen first, it does not get filled in.
This strict matching is an annoyance, but since one can easily work around it by
going to the site's main URL, I don't see the need to change it. YMMV.

I migrated from Mozilla 1.7.x to FF 1.5 and imported my old Mozilla profile including passwords.
My Password Manager lists e.g. the sites
- http://www.payback.de
Visiting the first URL, password manager fails to fill in anything. For freecity and bugzilla, it works like a charm.
Does anybody know why it fails at payback although I enter the exact string shown in Password Manager?
Cheers
Daniel

I finally discovered why! The reason is simple: Password manager does not fill in anything when there is more than one credential saved for a site.
In this case, you have to click to focus on the username input field and press cursor down to get a selection of all possible usernamen shown. (In mozilla, this was different: A selection window popped up)
Bug or feature?

With a network login dialog (such as http://db.iserve.net.nz) I have multiple logins. Password Manager picks one seemingly at random, and fills it in for me. Usually this is one I haven't used in months or years. If I clear the fields, it then leaves me stranded. No dropdowns, and most certainly no passwords. Doesn't make any difference if I use a master password. Bit useless if you ask me.
