My guess is that "name" is a reserved word, not that I can find a URL for it. In any case, my test :- name="asname" worked as expected. Marking as INVALID

i don't think it's reserved, nevertheless, if it were, mozilla should still handle it...

(In reply to comment #1) > My guess is that "name" is a reserved word, not that I can find a URL for it. "name" is not a reserved word. In the HTML4.01 DTD Strict (and XHTML1.0 Strict too), the name attribute of the input element is marked as CDATA, and in the CDATAs definiation, there is no such a part, that shown, that there is any reserved word. BTW, the specification is say, that: "For some HTML 4 attributes with CDATA attribute values, the specification imposes further constraints on the set of legal values for the attribute that may not be expressed by the DTD." But I don't think, that this is apply for input's name attribute. Other way, the DTD should mark the name attribute with type NAME, but in this case, this could not be error.
OK, based on what http://validator.w3.org/check tells me, name=name is valid HTML (at HTML v3.2 anyway). However, validator has been wrong before....

This is a duplicate of bug 160329. Can't somebody just change form.name to form. getAttribute("name")? Same for encoding and target.
Bug #160329 is a dup of Bug #136532 IMHO *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 136532 ***
