Control shift left cursor should select and highlight the entire word, all it does it move the cursor the correct amount without selecting.

This only applies in edit fields, i.e., where a caret can show. Confirmed in M13 and in 2000-01-28-12-M14 Bug 25730, "shift-arrowkey selection extension not working in edit fields" may get in the way of fixing this. Note that 25730 bug did not occur with M13, unlike this bug.

This really seems like a duplicate of 25730 (or vice versa). Can someone explain how they are different? What happened in M13 to cause this bug to be different from 25730? (Are we sure that 25730 didn't happen in M13?)

It wouldn't suprise me if the fix for bug 25730 takes care of this bug along the way, but no, I checked carefully and it did not happen in M13 on WinNT. The real difference is that in bug 25730, one character is selected at any given time, using shift-left* or shift-right* in the way that would normally extend the selection, whereas here, using ctrl-shift-arrowkey, no selection happens at all. My best guess is that one of the first M14 changes built on this bug's fragile base to create bug 25730.

Quoting from bug 25730: >----- Additional Comments From jdaly@ixl.com 2000-02-07 15:15 ----- >same effect for [shift]+[home] and [shift]+[end], which is [no selection]. Confirmed with 2000-02-07-08-M14 nightly binary on Windows NT.
