The preview image addition tool is broken, and puts a malformed URL into the DB.
Seems to be possibly a case-sensitivity issue or something like it.

I've got most of a new tool written to fix this up. Its much nicer IMO than the
current one.

The new tool allows multiple preview images to be added and maintained. It
features the ability to resize the input images which can be in both PNG and JPG
forms (the output is always a JPG), caption support, and you can manage which
image appears on our lists. :-)

Please, finally fix this bug.

Due to the fact you mark every bug-report according to the missing theme preview
images as a duplicate of this one...
Can we expect the problem will be fixed when we see preview images on the theme
page, or only when the tool for putting it in is working?

you get me? i think having the tool is needed for solving the problem of missing
preview images, but missing the tool != missing the preview images

The tool exists. I just doesn't currently upload things right. And since
Wolf's dev environment is very out of sync with UMO now, you'll just have to
wait until he makes a massive checkin.

Why do some themes have previews?

To wit: FirefoxModern, Orbit Grey, SaferFox, Lure, and Pinball
if i understood things right, the webserver and the site is really able to
manage and view those preview images. There seems to be an database for handling
this.

The problem behind (correct me if iam wrong) is or was: where do we take those
images from and how can we handle different sizes and formats of images to fit
into the webpage.

I guess Wolf writes, wrote or is going to write a tool that uses the images from
the theme-packages to extract the pictures for the webpage.

All i can say is, yeah such a tool is nice to have.
But within this weeks of nothing happening - i could have done screenshots of
every theme we have - and up it to the database manually!
Some themes have previews because the images were uploaded, and then had to be
manually fixed due to file names/database entries not matching. The UI has been
revamped, but not shipped to the UMO server.
This is a blocking-aviary1.0+ bug, meaning it's got a high-priority. :-) The new
tool is written and tested, but is completely incompatible with the current
version of Update.mozilla.org on the server today. It's compatible with a
beta/development version that's planned to go live by Firefox 1.0 (there'll be a
public beta of this version before that time).

Evangelism comments will *not* make that process go any faster, nor will it get
resources devoted to manually changing/adding preview images for the current site.

This bug isn't sitting untouched, it's waiting. :-)

Does this new tool rename them, or are we going to have people uploading
preview.png twice and fubarring something

Another duplicate bug report, people are really missing the feature of a preview.

I really hope it will be fixed this year.
Can you add "theme" to summary? It's not easy to find this bug

I'm sorry, is the code of the new tool viewable somewhere?

I can't vote for this bug. I am therefore adding a "me too" comment. This
would be a very welcome feature.
