Build Identifier: mozilla-win32-1.7.1-installer.exe, mozilla-win32-1.8a2-installer.exe
1.7 stable doesn´t start, latest 1.8 doesn´t either. Preliminaries are
as follows:
Mozilla resides on a public SAMBA-share on a server running Debian Woody, in a
directory called ´mozilla´. Windoze clients on the network have r/o
access to
the share and have a link on the desktop to start Mozilla from its directory on
the server.
Installing/Upgrading to more recent versions was done as follows:
+ download latest stable version, localized German
+ unpack the files in the archive into the ´mozilla´ directory on the
server
+ eventually reinstall/update plugins
Thus, it took only 15 minutes or so to have all clients updated at once.
Now, I tried to do the same with stable 1.7. First thing is that there´s no
localized version, so I downloaded the installer, renamed the ´mozilla´
directory to ´mozilla-old´ and installed 1.7 into ´mozilla´
(on the server, of
course).
Mozilla started on the computer I installed it from, but it was an English
version. I installed the German language pack, but then I needed to change the
configuration of Mozilla to actually use the language pack: Each user would have
to update his config to get Mozilla in German.
It should be possible to optionally set some or all config options globally on
server installations --- there are some things that only the admin should be
able to change, anyway.
Then, I installed/updated enigmail and enigmime to the latest versions and went
to some client on the network to check if the update was successful and users
would be able to switch to German.
But Mozilla didn´t start on that client (W2k). I restarted the client, but
to no
avail :(
The latest 1.8 doesn´t start on clients, either. I downloded and installed it,
checked another client (W95), doesn´t work, though it starts on the client I
installed it from.
The splash-screen doesn´t appear when Mozilla doesn´t start. I even
tried to
start from the shell to see if any messages would come up, but there wasn´t
any.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Mozilla didn´t start on clients
Expected Results:
Mozilla should start on clients, as with previous versions

maybe useful: http://mozptch.mozdev.org/, have a look at the links over there.

tons of links, but maybe 4 relevant for preconfiguration and deployment in
organisations.

For windows :
You MUST use the .zip build if you want to move an installed builds to other
systems because Mozilla installs a part of the files in c:\programme\Gemeinsame
Dateien\Mozilla , the .zip build contains this files inside the application
directory.
You can find the .zip in the same FTP directory as the installer Build, for
example :
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7.2/mozilla-win32-1.7.2.zip
Another good link for you could be :
http://www.alain.knaff.lu/howto/MozillaCustomization/
This bug report itself is invalid because you did a mistake and moved the
application directory for other system on the samba share without the GRE
directory and this is no support databse...
(But I'm glad if I can help you via mail if you have additional questions..)
And THERE IS a german build, see :
http://mozilla.kairo.at/download.php?ver=1.7.2
