On the www.grisoft.com AVG registration page there is a scrolling marquee, with
a form for user details below it. The "Country" dropdown flickers constantly
while the marquee is active. I have copied the page and trimmed it down to
reproduce the problem. Note that this page still loads javascript/style sheets
from Grisoft, as I don't know precisely what they contain.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load http://www.abarnett.demon.co.uk/tmp/firefoxbug.html
2. Click the "Please select your country" dropdown.

The original can be found at www.grisoft.com when you register to download the
free version of AVG (anti-virus).

Actual Results:  
Dropdown menu flickers continually, using up lots of CPU.

Expected Results:  
Display the dropdown without flickering (Opera and IE handle it correctly).

Windows XP, service pack 2. Bug is also exhibited in Firefox 9.3.

This also happens when manually moving through options in a select.

I posted a minimal testcase to demonstrate what I think is the same issue. The
tables/alignment in the testcase seem to be required to reproduce it.

IIRC this began happening around 0.8.

Requesting that someone who knows more about bugzilla set this bug as blocking
1.0 since it is highly visible and annoying.

Should mention it only happens when choosing an option with the keyboard. Just
open the select and keep pressing the up and down cursor keys fairly fast to see
the issue.

Bug 238493 seems to have fixed the flickering of the dropdown, but now when I
open the dropdown for the second time in the first testcase, it is wrongly
positioned (too high).

URL and Testcases WFM using Mozilla Trunk Nightly Build 2004101605 on Windows XP.
The behavior on Windows XP improved between Mozilla Trunk Nightly Build
2004101107 and 2004101206.

This bug was fixed by the checkin for bug 238493.
The remaining issue mentioned in comment 7 was fixed by one of the bugs blocking
bug 238493.
