User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 See also following bug at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237353 My partner has been running the same version, Moz v1.6, on his desktop PC since we both originally installed it on our systems back in Feb/March and he has had no problems whatsoever. BUG HISTORY START OF REPORT: PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS *NO* BSOD with my experience of this bug. AND I don't have this problem on my system at all, when I use NS 4.79, Opera v.x or M$IE. I'm on a Protec notebook with a desktop processor running NAV, ZA, and Seti in the background on startup, and primarily Dreamweaver, ACDC and Courier email for general apps: but these apps running, not running, doesn't seem to make any difference. To begin with (way back when last year ....) I had an occasional spontaneous reboot (maybe 4 or 5 from memory) with NS 7.1 resulting in all my personal settings and bookmarks being lost. Installed Moz 1.6 in March 2004 hoping it was fixed: It got so bad with Moz, that I almost couldn't shut the damn app without my machine restarting, whether using window close "X" in the top right hand corner or Program >file>exit. Came here, saw your requirements, decided to monitor first. Tried to figure out if there was a common denominator, but couldn't see any pattern. Online, offline, all other apps closed, no other apps closed, some apps closed, some apps running; default profile, created profile, modern/classic theme, no tabs, 10 tabs, closing tabs, not closing tabs before shutting the browser etc.etc. No joy, sometimes it would work OK, *mostly* it wouldn't. August 3rd 2004: I got so sick of Moz 1.6 falling over and having to reconfigure, I uninstalled it, cleaned and defragged the drive etc.etc., Installed Firefox v.08 (2 weeks ago). All was happy happy until two hours ago (2PM 16AUG aest.), when my machine spontaneously rebooted (Possible DIFFERENT bug) when browsing online with Firefox .08 and trying to file a bookmark from the history sidebar using right mouse. Aaaaaaarrrggg! Well, it hasn't cleaned out my personal settings this time, but losing my bookmarks *again* (except for the first 5 on the personal toolbar - go figure) is still a pain in the ****. ... but at least I have that file backed up now (chalk it up to my experience with NS 7.1 and Moz!) This seems to be a BIG problem if the forums and bug reports are anything to go by. These cannot all be down to drivers/conflicts or hardware/software configs. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Close moz 1.6 browser window using X 2. Close moz 1.6 using File > exit 3. Actual Results: spontaneous machine reboot and all bookmarks and personal settings lost. Expected Results: Closed browser without spontaneously rebooting my machine and losing my bookmarks and personal settings. This started happening on my machine with NS 7.1 and intro'd tabs and sidebar. I love tabs and sidebars on my browser, but not if it's M$ or gives such pathetic stability! I'll be monitoring Firefox, but if this keeps up, I'll be going back to NS 4.79. Yeah it's old, doesn't have tabbed browsing, some M$ "best viewed" sites will look ratshit, but I *know* it won't fall over! ** THOUGHT ** : I don't install the mail or newsgroup apps.. Cheers and Hooroo, hope this can be beat!
