Details

Very unstable for me. Many crashes (talkback data sent).

Others:

1. The program "spawned" extra accounts - duplicating my account
 and the main account.

2. The program "spawned" duplicate folders - inbox 1, software 1, etc.

And I did not need extra folders.

3. Drag-drop not enabled. How to do that?

4. At one time, duplicates of inbox messages were spawned.

Right now, I will continue to use the browser, but the messenger
mail (popmail) component is too unstable for me to use.

Don't get discouraged, please.

Will it pay me to try future nightly builds (M13 or M14?).

Thanks for you good efforts.
Which platform/OS are you using? Which build? What do you mean by "spawned"?
What did you do when the bugs occurred?

Please see http://www.mozilla.org/bugs/ for guidelines on how to write bug
reports.

Drag and drp is currently disabled, I believe.
Robert explained by email:

> Which platform/OS are you using?

Sorry. Win 95 OSR 2 (win32)

  Which build?

Milestone M13 - not a nightly build

> What do you mean by "spawned"?

For reasons that I don't understand, having set up in Messenger my own
Profile, with its own (Mozilla created) SENT, INBOX, etc. folders, when
I selected another message in the inbox or tried to forward a message, I
suddenly ended up with:

1. Multiple listings of the same message in the inbox (no copies were
downloaded!)
2. Inbox (1) and Sent (1) were added to my basic inbox and sent
listings.

Sounds like a sci-fi movie, where a creature spawns itself!

> What did you do when the bugs occurred?

See above for what I was doing when the bugs suddenly occurred. Once it
occurred, I tried to delete the added mailboxes. No luck. I couldn't.

As I recall, when I did try to delete one of the 3 (duplicate) copies
of, say, a message from John Smith, all three would be deleted. It's
like one message was there, but it was listed 3x in the inbox. Strange.

Could it be related to bug# 23782?
Did the message duplications and "spawnings" persist through an exit and
relaunch? If they did not, it does sound like you might have hit the bug nbaca
suggested.
Laurel@Netscape.com asked if the spawned folder and message duplications
continued after exit and relaunch. The duplicate folders did (labeled inbox1,,
etc. I don't think the duplicate messages returned.
Lisa, we're going to need help reproducing the duplicate messages/folders
problem. The crashes reported in Talkback all appear to be the same stack trace,
and I've separated that out into bug 26307.
Esther and I have talked about the possible causes for this and tried some
scenarios using M13 in the lab which did not reproduce the duplicated folders.
Basically we tried variations on this theme:
1. Use profile manager to delete a POP profile and "don't delete files".
2. Without closing profile manager, we created a new POP profile and named it
the same as the deleted one.
3. We launched the new profile and went the the mail wizard and set the POP
account up exactly as it was before.
4. We went to the mail window, got messages.
5. We selected a message, clicked the mailto link and sent a message to
recreate bug #23782, which duplicated messages in the thread pane and resorted
the folder pane.
6. We set the Sent folder pref (we know there was a problem user had reported
in this are see bug #25391) and repeated sending messages and selecting
messages.
7. We exited and relaunced. Folders were OK.

We will think about further scenarios to try.

Background info: because I've communicated with bbriley about the Sent folder
problem he had, I know he has tried mozilla with different builds other than
m13. I'm wondering if we're seeing compounded problems from considerably old
builds without having cleaned up user files.

bbriley: When or in what milestone build was this mail profile/account setup?
Have you ever gone through the mail account setup wizard more than once?

Esther and I will keep thinking about how to reproduce this and are going to
email bbriley under separate cover (in an attempt to not overkill the clutter in
this bug report) and will summarize any responses or findings thereof here.

bbriley@cin.net - can you answer Laurel's question in her last comments? Can
you create a brand new profile/account for mail to try? Were you migrating
before?

I (Bob Riley) removed M13 from my system within 4 days of having all these
difficulties. Sorry! I was not migrating before. I did create a new account
before running M13.
Laurel and I had tried several times doing different types of installs to try to
reproduce the bug regarding spawned duplicate folders and duplicate accounts.
We couldn't. In a separate e-mail, I asked Bob Riely if he could send me a
snapshot of his directory structure for the users50 folder hoping it would give
us some clues. He stated he had removed all of the files within days of the
problem and was sorry he couldn't provide this for us.
As for the duplicate messages, we have a bug on how that happens (23782) and
believe his problem was part of that bug. Phil had created another bug for a
crashing issue. At this time I suggest to reslolve this bug as worksforme and I
will verify it. Bob, if you have re-installed and are using mail without the
duplicate account or folder problems, please let us know by commenting in this
bug. If you are seeing the same problem, please reopen this bug and we'll get
in touch with you for additional information. Thanks, Esther
