User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.1) Gecko/20040707 Build Identifier: Impossible to get to about:mozilla... I downloaded 1.8a3 and replaced 1.7.2. On the first time I loaded it, the mozilla site homepage was loaded - but was broken (didn't display the images and wasn't formatted correctly). After restarting the browser it loaded my home page (my.yahoo.com) but also failed to load the whole page. After this, the browser is unusable. clicking on any links, selection of bookmark , or enetering a URL - all fail to load the next page. In addition, the menus look weird (I'm attaching a screenshot of the bookmarks menu). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start the browser 2. wait for the home page to load 3. Actual Results: Sometimes the homepage fails to load correctly. On all times, it is impossible to continue browsing.

Did you uninstall 1.7.2 before you installed 1.8a3? Did you try a new clean profile?
I unzipped the 1.8a3 zip file into a new empty directory and started it from there. That's how I've been loading new mozilla versions for years. When reverting to mozilla.exe from the 1.7.2 directory everything behaves normally. I didn't try with a clean profile and don't really care too. Most people who'll download this version will want to use their existing profile...
This is one of the anomalies in the mozilla display following loading of 1.8a3.
