I noticed that when I use Safari --which is the default browser on Mac OS X, and comes up when clicking the Get More Themes and Get More Extensions from either Firefox or Thunderbird-- that the Extensions and Themes pages render horribly. regardless of the browser being used --be it Safari, IE5/6, Opera or gecko-based-- these pages should render nicely. I'll attach a screenshot of what I see in Safari. urls affected (at least): http://update.mozilla.org/themes/ http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/
per Asa, this is a 1.0 blocker.

what I see when going to http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/ in Safari v1.2.3 on Mac OS X 10.3.5.
Is there a reason this is in Firefox -> Website and not mozilla.org -> Update ? I agree with this bug, and update renders horrbily in safari. I don't personally have access to a Mac to test with though. :-/
did some quick testing of the URLs mentioned in comment 0: a. Opera (latest version per platform): looks fine on Mac, Linux and Windows. b. IE6 on WindowsXP: looks fine. c. IE5 on Mac OS X: almost but not quite as bad as Safari: the lefthand Categories listing gets munged.

Good idea, but kicking off our radar.

How's http://update-beta.mozilla.org/ looking with regard to this bug? It'd be nice to go ahead and get feedback on how we're looking before the public-beta period. (the site is open to all though. ;-) )

(In reply to comment #8) > How's http://update-beta.mozilla.org/ looking with regard to this bug? much better! a. Safari: the Extensions and Themes pages have a huge amount of whitepace, or rather bluespace, for the "Featuring Firefox!" header. then again, this is also the case when I view those pages in Firefox (using 200411010x-0.11 bits on Mac and Linux, so it'd be cross-platform afaict). this might be due to a css issue; see bug 148994 comment 62, which might be applicable. in any case, the content is definitely legible in the beta site, after a quick look. b. IE/Mac: the main update-beta.mozilla.org page doesn't display those nifty three columns --the six sections are in a single column, but it's perfectly legible. the whitespace issue also crops up in the Extensions and Themes pages, but it appears as a large section of whitespace above the blue "Featuring Firefox!" header. but the content is still legible.
The whitespace issue should be fixed now.. (it was related to the CSS clear; being used.) I believe the upcoming silverorange designs for update-beta will fix the three-columns problem in IE/Mac.

OK, the new styles for update-beta have landed. How are we doing with cross-browser rendering on http://update-beta.mozilla.org now? I think the remaining issues in Comment #9 have probably been solved, but new ones might've popped up.

Wolf, on Mac (OS X 10.3.6) the beta site looks great using Safari 1.2.4, Camino 0.8.2, Opera 7.54, Firefox 1.0 and today's Firefox trunk build. there are still portions of whitespace and a bit of overlapping text when using IE/Mac 5.2. I can attach a screenshot of IE/Mac in a bit, if needed.
on Linux, umo-beta also looks good with Opera 7.54, Firefox 1.0 and y'day's Firefox-trunk builds. I'll also checked out the site with Konqueror (3.2.2-6.FC2; I'm still using fedora core 2, but with the latest updates). it's mostly fine, except that the Go button never wants to be on the right side. screenshot coming up.
interesting that the Go button stays underneath the "search" label, not on the right side --even with a wide browser window. the search label is also a bit low, not aligned vertically with the home, about and developers links.
OK, sounds good. Are the remaining issues on Mac IE 5.2 or Konqueror 3.2.2 are major enough to attempt to address?
We can (and will) always try to improve browser compatability, but I think the Konqueror and IE/Mac issues should not hold up the launch. Everything is still visible and accessible in both browsers.
Alright, WFM. :-) I'm considering this bug as fixed. (If you disagree, feel free to reopen.) The remaining issues can be filed as seperate bugs and fixed there. (Notably the Konqueror issues, as I'm told that hacking the CSS to try to fix IE/Mac issues isn't viable.)
