To reproduce: 0. Fetch a current cvs nightly 1. Create some mail filters 2. Select some mail folder 3. Run Tools->Run Filters on Folder Results: Nothing happens. No errors appear in JS Console. Note this happens with POP3 account, so is not the same as the IMAP bugs. Maybe also related is that i use the Global Inbox feature for my 3 POP3 Accounts. Also related might be that Run Now in the Message Filters window doesn't work, too.
ditto - no workie with Thunderbird 0.8 win32 (2 pop accounts, global inbox)
I've seen this bug with Thunderbird-0.8 on Windows XP and Linux and also with recent builds of Mozilla (on Linux - I've not tried that on Windows). It does seem to be because of the Local Folders/global inbox. If I use an old profile with it's own inbox (not under Local Folders) the filters work fine. I don't think Thunderbird 0.8 should have been released with this bug. I'd like to flag this as blocking Thunderbird-0.9 but I don't know how.

The patch doesn't work for me on Linux. If I create a profile with a global, Local Folders inbox, message filters don't work.
Oops, sorry, it is working for new mail as it arrives from my ISP, it wasn't immediately obvious. The filters don't work on the global inbox for mail that has already been downloaded. Those messages have to be moved manually. The filters work for new mail, thats the main thing. Sorry for the bugspam.

Sorry for the bugspam. But this bug was actually about moving mail that has already been downloaded. I'll check later if this patch has fixed it.
indeed, this doesn't fix it. Still no errors in JS Console, still doesn't work.

do you even see the list of folders that you could run the filter on, after this fix? Or is it still blank/missing?
(In reply to comment #9) > do you even see the list of folders that you could run the filter on, after this > fix? Or is it still blank/missing? Maybe we talk about different things ;-)? Running single message filters from Tools-Message Filters... works fine. But when i run Tools->Run Filters on Folder (as said in Comment 0), i would expect it loops through all "real" accounts and runs the filters from each account (of course it should look to which account a mail belongs to before performing a action on a mail).
I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I was thinking of running single message filters from Tools-Message Filters, like you said. Since there are no filters for local folders, run filters on folder won't work for the local folder inbox. Associating the filters with messages from the incoming account and running them would be a fair amount of work. Allowing the user to define local folders account filters and running those would be a lot easier.

(In reply to comment #12) > > Maybe we could just gray out/hide this menu-point then or something like that? > But that means we'll have no way to automatically sort the inbox into separate folders. I leave the mail on the server for one week so when I set up a new Thunderbird profile more than 300 messages land in the Inbox. To sort them by hand has just taken me two and a half hours of tedium. It used to take a couple of minutes to set up message rules which did it automatically.
I'm going to make it so you can define filters for local folders - they will only be used for filter after the fact - you may end up having to have copies of each filter, one for the incoming server, and one for the local folders account, which is kind of a pain, but better than what we have now.

I agree. While this approach is perhaps then less than pristine, it is greatly preferable compared to manually sorting local messages. If it counts for anything, this feature was what finally convinced me to dump old Mozilla as a mail client. I'd used the Thunderbirs-0.8 local sort (with IMAP where it was functional) and was sold. Moving to POP3 (for unrelated reasons) and losing the ability to locally sort was rather disappointing.
