Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a3) Gecko/20040901 Firefox/0.9.1+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a3) Gecko/20040901 Firefox/0.9.1+ In most other OS X apps I am able to use the scroll wheel on my mice (multiple different type and brands) to scroll vertically and hold shift down while moving the scroll wheel to scroll horizontally. This does not work on Firefox on OS X. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Hold down shift 2.Move scroll wheel on mouse Actual Results: Nothing hapens at all. Expected Results: The page should scroll left or right if there was content in those directions

shift-scroll is for backward/forward : see bug 197702

Shift+wheel is back/forward to be similar to IE on Windows. If most Mac browsers use Shift+wheel to scroll horizontally, maybe Firefox should have a different behavior on Mac.

I guess that was my point. In most other Applications, not just browsers, on OS X, shift+scroll wheel = scroll horizontally. This is the behavior in Finder windows, Excel, Word, Photoshop, IE for Mac, as well as Camino. I believe that the discussion on bug 197702 pertains specifically to Firefox in general. I guess I am not familiar with how this has been dealt with in the past. However, I feel pretty strongly that for the OS X version of Firefox that the scroll wheel behavior should work the same as the majority of OS X native applications.

hmm, I wonder how Camino does it, since the scrollwhell code doesn't have an option to make a modifier scroll horizontally This relatively straightforward to fix, though, if we decide to do it. Also, what does Safari do?

(In reply to comment #4) > Also, what does Safari do? Safari behaves like other OS X apps. Shift + Scroll = Scroll Horizontally
