User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040804 Netscape/7.2 (ax) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 I'm using the current release build of Firefox0.9.3. Recently I lost all ability to install extensions and themes (or in this case XPI and JAR files). I've got the appropriate preferences selected in the Options dialog as well. This problem will continue to occur even after erasing the install and profile directories, and also occurs on multiple WinXP user profiles. AFAIK I never installed anything into Firefox prior to this, but recently found that "SkyPilot Clasic" didn't work, and then found that absolutely nothing worked. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open up Firefox, try to install any theme or extension Actual Results: I will receive a dialog giving me the option to install. If OK or Install is clicked, Extension or Theme manager will pop up, but neither of them will attempt to download or install any software. Expected Results: After clicking OK or Install, the Extension or Theme Manager should begin to download the requested software.
works for me, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040924 Firefox/0.10 Try a newer version, 1.0PR. If it doesn't work for you, are you installing from update.mozilla.org? Please, post a link to an example extension from u.m.o you couldn't install. Can you open the Extension/Theme managers manually (by selecting Tools>Extensions)?
Summary: extension/theme manager won't install components, at any given time → extension/theme manager won't install items, at any given time
i've got the same problem using Firefox 0.9.3 / Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSI6.0;Windows NT 5.1) i cannot install any extensions. I tried several downloads from http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/ but all of them wont install. I've triend extensions from http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/ as well and get the same errors. When i checked the Javascript Console i saw these errors: Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getBoolPref]" nsresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)" location: "JS frame :: file:///F:/Robbert/Programmas/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsUpdateService.js :: nsUpdateService_watchForUpdates :: line 149" data: no] Source File: file:///F:/Robbert/Programmas/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsUpdateService.js Line: 149 Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... When i try to install a extension i get the following error: Error: [Exception... Rubstar: 0.9.3 is quite old now. Please install 1.0 RC1 when it comes out and try to reproduce. I've got a feeling that your problem is due to broken profile. Don Luchini: do you have cache size set to 0? Can you install by opening the downloaded XPI with File>Open?
Nickolay, I'm unable to try your suggestion on my cache settings at the moment. An installation of Firefox 1.0PRrc a few weeks ago cleared up the issue. It might be interesting to note that 0.9.3 and nightlies leading up to the 1.0PRrc hadn't resolved this bug, but the release did.
ok, feel free to resolve this bug as worksforme then :)
OK, marked as WORKSFORME now since it's been cleared up by FF1.0PRrc and higher.
