User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 0.8 (20040913) I use a file name "username.signature" as signature file for my mails. This kind of name causes Thunderbird 0.8 to crash (0.7.3 worked fine): INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not get the JVM manager System error?:: Success Renameing the file to usernamesignature (without the ".") solved the problem. This problem does not appear for TB 0.8 under Windows. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. use a signature file named "user.signature" 2. open the message compose window Actual Results: Thunderbird crashes with the follwowing error message: INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not get the JVM manager System error?:: Success

Confirmed here - x86 Red Hat Linux 9.0, standard install from TB tarball. Problem visible with and without Enigmail; no other extensions installed. The signature file I use is ~/.signature. As suggested in http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=127175, using ~/signature instead stopped Thunderbird crashing whenever I tried to compose a message. (~/signature is a symlink to the original.)

(In reply to comment #5) > 20041015/Linux doesn't crash. 20041103/Linux - Thunderbird 0.9 now also works fine for me ...
The FIFO Bug (253835) which was marked as a duplicate of this one, still happens for me in Thunderbird 0.9. That is, when I set the signature to ~/.signature, which is a FIFO that has a perl script watching (and filling) the other end, when I click on new mail, thunderbird locks up. At least now it doesn't use 100% cpu like it used to, but it still locks up (~50% cpu, no screen updates, no response, etc).
