I cant seem to add the rss feed:
http://www.computerworld.dk/rss.asp

it just keeps saying "verifying the feed..."

using latest nightly branch build
If you are behind a firewall: Do you have the proxy configured in Thunderbird?
Another feed where it gets stuck on "verifying the feed...":
http://bensbargains.net/rss.xml

Using Thunderbird 0.8 (not a nightly). Not behind any firewall and not using any
proxy.
Another problem feed:

http://www.studiofoglio.com/atom.xml

Also not using a proxy.
Another problem feed (version 0.8, not a nightly):

http://www.xoltar.org/rss.xml

No proxy, and feed is valid according to

http://feedvalidator.org/check?url=http://www.xoltar.org/rss.xml
This happenens whenever a feed's data file is left around after unsubscribing.

A workaround is to exit Thunderbird, delete the offending feed file from your
profile/Mail/News&Blogs folder, and restart Thunderbird. You can then subscribe
again.

... please disregard comment 5, that appears to be another bug with the same
symptoms. I can confirm that the urls given here do not work with a brand new
profile directory.
An example RSS feed that Thunderbird CAN subscribe to.	It is valid (see
http://rss.scripting.com/), and the only difference is I changed

<rdf:RDF xmlns:None="http://purl.org/rs...etc

to

<rdf:RDF xmlns="http://purl.org/rs...etc
Attached file Bad moinmoin RSS feed.
An example RSS feed that Thunderbird CANNOT subscribe to. It is valid (see
http://rss.scripting.com/), and the only difference is I changed

<rdf:RDF xmlns:None="http://purl.org/rs...etc

to

<rdf:RDF xmlns="http://purl.org/rs...etc
See attachments.

I cannot subscribe to RSS feed
http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/RecentChanges?action=rss_rc
even though it is valid
http://rss.scripting.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmoinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de%2FRecentChanges%3Faction%3Drss_rc

It seems to be because Mozilla chokes on xmlns:None= (see attachments).
Thunderbird has no problems after removing ':None' in the moinmoin RSS feed
(used wget and vi, put the file on my own website and subscribed to it).

Using version 0.8 (20040926) on standard debian. Confirmed by GentooBSD on
#mozillazine.
Add GoogleBlog to the list of problem feeds

modifying this since there are quite a few bugs which reported this. we can add
rss links here which exhibit the verifying-never-finishes issue.

fix for http://www.studiofoglio.com/atom.xml

this feed had empty content inside of the author tag. The code had a bug in
that case where this.author got set to the actual DOM NODE for the author
instead of a string. This led to a JS exception down the line.

http://www.computerworld.dk/rss.asp is now working in the latest nightlies for me.
Cross that one off the list.

This patch fixes:

http://www.studiofoglio.com/atom.xml

this feed had empty content inside of the author tag. The code had a bug in
that case where this.author got set to the actual DOM NODE for the author
instead of a string. This led to a JS exception down the line.

It also now fixes:
http://bensbargains.net/rss.xml
http://www.google.com/googleblog/atom.xml

which were atom feeds where we weren't handling an empty items tag properly. We
were throwing a JS error instead of hitting fallback code which was already
there to address this issue.

the patch referenced in comment #19 has been checked into the trunk and the branch
I am having this bug for the first time, with feeds that used to work properly
(that I had to delete and re-suscribe to). I am using neither a proxy nor a
firewall.
Win XP Pro SP1, TB 0.9 Build 2004-11-25.
all of the feeds referenced in this bug now verify *except* for the following:

a. attachment 163385 [details] "bad moinmoin rss feed" --is this still a valid test?

b. http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/weblog.rss --this was bug 269506:
should that bug be reopened rather than this one?

tested with 2004112705-0.9 on linux fc2.
Using my self-compiled 1.0RC1RC1 (that's what it says in the about box), I still
see this with
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/index.rdf
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/atom.xml
http://www.vlad1.com/~vladimir/blog/feed/rss2/
http://www.steelgryphon.com/blog/wp-rss2.php

With the first two, the progress indicator runs from 0% to 100%, but stays there.
With the latter two, that indicator stays at 0%.
The upper three feeds I mentioned in comment 23 display this error in the js
console:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8055000b
[nsIMsgFolder.createSubfolder]" nsresult: "0x8055000b (<unknown>)" location:
"JS frame :: chrome://messenger-newsblog/content/FeedItem.js :: anonymous ::
line 169" data: no]
Source File: chrome://messenger-newsblog/content/FeedItem.js
Line: 169

The last one now verifies, but the only item displays a "Try again" link, which
leads to this error page in Firefox:
"The file /mnt/daten/Sonstiges/Thunderbird/Steffen/Mail/News & Blogs/Zarro Boogs
found. ?number=0 cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.#"
intersting...all 4 of those feeds load and verify correctly for me on Windows
using todays build.
Adding other feeds, like http://www.mozilla.org/news.rdf, works fine. There are
no leftovers from those "broken" feeds in my News & Blogs folder. Renaming
feeds.rdf doesn't help either.

This has to be related to the location of my News & Blogs folder. I have no
problems with a new profile created in the default location
(~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.test). But I'm experiencing the same problems with a
new profile created in /mnt/daten/test. I do have write-access there of course.
I was able to add and verify the feeds from comment 23 using 2004113005-0.9
(linux fc2). although my profile is located under
~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.profile-name...
Using the 12/3 Tbird branch, I am able to add all of the feeds below with no issues.

minusing for 1.0 - it appears that all of the RSS feeds that have been listed
here now work. We should probably keep this bug open to track issues as they arise.
Flags: blocking-aviary1.0? → blocking-aviary1.0-
I just uncountered the problem with SourceForge "inactive feeds" and Thunderbird
1.0. Try this one:

http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_projnews.php?group_id=48103&rss_fulltext=1

which validates at http://rss.scripting.com/.
I detected that if you subscribe a feed without a bar after the domain (i.e.
http://mysite.com) Thunderbirds tries to import the feeds and does not list the
content. I have tested it also with a specific site
(http://rafaelpm.rssblog.uol.com.br x http://rafaelpm.rssblog.uol.com.br/) and
localhost using IIS
Flags: blocking-aviary1.1?
http://www.xoltar.org/rss.xml still hangs once progress bar reaches 100% on
Thunderbird 1.0.
the two feeds in question seem to be working now on the trunk.

I downloaded Thunderbird 1.0 and http://rafaelpm.rssblog.uol.com.br is still not
working.
