User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; privacy; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040820 Galeon/1.3.17 (Debian package 1.3.17-1) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; privacy; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040820 Galeon/1.3.17 (Debian package 1.3.17-1) This is a request about the backend configuration of Trash folders. In bug #24064, a backend for setting imap Trash folders was added. In bug #182274, work is being done to integrate this configuration option into the GUI. As discussed in #182274, I think the backend in #24064 is inconsistent, since the option only works for IMAP accounts. I would very much like to be able to use this configuration variable for any type of account. I believe this would be possible with a minimum of code change. A Trash folder is not specific to IMAP accounts only; the same reasons (localisation, sharing of folders between clients, ...) are valid for other mailboxes (POP3, Local Folders). Then, a logical GUI could be created by adding the Trash folder option to the same GUI location where other folders (such as 'Sent') can be configured, instead of wrongly making IMAP a special case. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Actual Results: Trash folders can not be customised. Expected Results: Trash folders, like any other folders, should be fully customisable for users, for any type of account.
Also see bug 221946. I checked for a dupe of this bug, but didn't locate it. I wouldn't be surprised if I'd missed it, however; this seems like an obvious request.

I checked some similar bug reports, but most of them are erroneously closed as dup of bug #24064. It's not immediately obvious that the implementation given in #24064 only works for imap (like some of the last comments and the code tell us). That's strange because the problem is as valid for other types of folders.
