(Reporter: bugzilla, Assigned: mscott)
Details
User-Agent: Opera/7.54 (Windows NT 5.1; U) [en]
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 0.8 milestone and Sept. 21st nightly build
Click on a message in the subject/summary pane. Message shows up in preview
pane. Every 30 seconds, the view is refreshed and the message is un-selected.
This leads to some problems:
1. You can no longer reply to the message in the preview pane
2. You loose track of where in the list you are, as message is unselected and
you are back at the top of the message pane.
3. When using filters like "Unread" combined with the Mark Message Read After n
Seconds features, you have to select "All" messages (or equivalent) and hunt for
it to find it again if you want to reply to it.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to a folder with more than a screenfull of messages
2. Scroll down and click on a message; it shows up in the preview pane
3. Wait up to 30 seconds
4. The mail is unselected (reply, forward, delete etc buttons are gray) and the
message pane is scrolled back up to the top.
Actual Results:
Mail is unselected, window scrolls away from "thread", reply button grayed out.
Expected Results:
Refresh should not unselect mail, the selected mail(s) should stay selected even
if they would be excluded from the view.
Tested on 0.8, 0.8-Sept-21st-build for both Windows and Linux (not Mac).
This did not happen on earlier 0.7.x milestone

are you checking your server for new mail every minute? Are you in a non-default
view, like view unread?

I check for new mail every 10 minutes, so no correlation there. Here it happens
in all the built-in views. No custom views. The mail source is IMAP, not POP.
On the Windows PC I had an existing profile installed, the linux version I tried
that shows the same was a completely new install (but using the same IMAP source).

does your server support the IDLE command? If so, have you tried turning off
that feature, under advanced imap server settings?
But first, try turning off Mark Message Read After n
Seconds - I strongly suspect that's the issue, maybe in conjunction with the
idle command.

Disabling or changing the Mark-message-read does not affect it, but turning off
the "Use IDLE command..." solves it.
So what seems to be happening is when the new 0.8 build sends the "hi I'm IDLE
but still here" message to the IMAP server, that triggers the view/filter
refresh. And it shouldn't, IMHO.
The IDLE command solved some earlier problems with session disconnects.

This is the same bug as 261682 and should be fixed in the 2004-10-03 build.
