User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 The Fastfind/Find As You Type lags/slows down very significantly while typing a search string prefix that isn't found (giving the message "phrase not found"). For example, if I typed in /aiudfshf, and the page didn't have any words starting with 'ai', the remaining characters 'udfshf' would appear one at a time, and very slowly. I would assume this is because it searches the page every time I type an additional character. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to a page with a good deal of text content. 2. Fastfind a long string that does not appear on the page, such as random characters. Actual Results: Your characters should appear slowly, with a delay inbetween each character that does not appear. During this time, you must wait for the various delays to finish before you can type in another string or cancel your search. Expected Results: To prevent further searches on the page until the non-found prefix is deleted, or a regex special character is in the user input. This is a nuisance because if a page doesn't contain the prefix of the string, it will not contain the full string. A solution would be to ignore further continuing searches from user input until the non-found prefix is deleted, or a regex special character is in the user input. The current workaround would be to type in a search string one character at a time and wait for it to search. However this would significantly reduce the time it takes to search and consequently the effectiveness of this feature. search keywords: lag slow delay slowness fastfind find as you type

Sorry: Apparently firefox has problems when playing a sound on my computer, resulting in a freeze. I'm not sure exactly what this is related to, but I'd say it's an entirely different bug altogether. I didn't notice this because I usually don't have sound on. Anyway setting 'accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound' to false fixes this problem. Moreover, bug #252420 has been patched, fixing multiple notifications which greatly reduces the severity of the bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 252420 ***

I've just checked, apparently this bug still exists. The bug that was bothering me was related to firefox having problems playing sounds, but this problem still appears on very large pages.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
