I really like flowed mode. But while it works almost fine for displaying
messages, a message composition is much far from ideal.

I propose to have an option "Soft Wrapping" that would work as follows.
1. There would be no horizontal scrollbar in the Compose window.
2. All text is softly wrapped at the marging defined by the width of the Compose
window (in particular, the content should be rewrapped if the Compose window is
resized).
3. While entering long text line, it should be softly wrapped as soon as it
reaches Compose window edge.

Actually, this feature is implemented in the Composer. In Normal view Composer
introduce scrollbar only if it is unable to sofly wrap the text line (e.g., the
line consisting of a single word); otherwise there is no scrollbar and text
lines wrapped at the Composer window edge.

I ask for the same feature in the MailNews Compose window, no matter which
format for composition is in use, text or html.

There is a preference that attempts to provide what you seem to be asking for:
  mail.compose.wrap_to_window_width
If that suits your purposes, please mark this bug  Resolved|WorksForMe  -- if 
not, please explain what else you need.

That preference is known to be a little buggy; see bug 233705.
