"Firefox was not able to detect any available updates" leaves the user with a
slight inconfindence as to what the message means. It could for example not only
mean that there are no updates, but also that Firefox was factually un*able* to
look for updates.
A better wording might be: "Firefox did not find any available updates" (mconnor)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have extensions installed for which there are no available updates
2. Open Extension manager
3. Click on "Update"
4. See message

confirming, because the message isn't very clear indeed.
though, it means what it says. There may be updates, that are not listed on
u.m.o and therefore Firefox is not *able* to find the updates, although they may
exist.
Also, too late for 1.0, all localizable strings were freezed when 1.0PR was
released, afaik.

Component: Extension/Theme Manager → Software Update
"Firefox did not find any available updates," doesn't sound too great, either.
That could mean Firefox looked but missed the update.
There should be two update failure messages: one for not being able to connect
to the server ("Firefox could not connect to the update server,") and another
for successfully connecting and finding that there are no new updates.
I like RealPlayer (first time I've said that!) 10's (on OS X) message: "you have
the latest RealPlayer software." That leaves the user in absolutely no doubt:
the update check was successful, comprehensive, and the current software is
totally up to date. I find that message really reassuring.
I must admit I'm not entirely sure how this update feature will work with
Firefox - for example, if a Firefox 1.1 user checks for updates after the
release of Firefox 1.2, will Firefox 1.2 show up as an available update? If so,
then I strongly believe RealPlayer 10's message (or something similar) would be
the best option. If not, then back to the drawing board.

Some good example messages from other programs
- You already have the latest Firefox version installed. (skype)
- Your computer is running the most recent version of Firefox (wmp 10)
- The version of Firefox (1.0.2) is the current version (iTunes)
