Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 When putting an address in the "To:" field of a new email, if there isn't a match in my address book Thunderbird will offer an auto-completed address using the default domain I have set. When I overtype that with the actual domain I want, sometimes after hitting tab (to get to the Subject field) Thunderbird will overwrite the domain I typed with the default domain. This only happens once in a while, but I had several e-mails go astray after upgrading to 0.8 so I've been watching the "To" field more closely. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start typing an address in the "To" field, but pause before entering the @ part of the address. Wait for Thunderbird to suggest completion with the default domain. 2. Overtype the suggested completed address with the real domain 3. Hit tab, and observe that the "To" address has reverted to the originally suggested completed address. Actual Results: I watched as the domain part of the address I typed got replaced by the default domain. Expected Results: The address should not have been changed. Don't know if this is platform specific, but I'm usually on OS X so it's where I've seen this happen.

I can confirm this on Windows XP. I can reproduce it about 90% of the time if I wait until just before the autocomplete takes effect before typing the desired domain, so the default domain just briefly flashes up before my first character replaces it. I believe this is new to 0.8.

Also, I believe that this bug should be "major" as it results in potentially misdirected mail, but I can't change that as I'm not the submitter - Scott/Travis/Mike? Ditto for setting hardware/OS to all, since I see it on XP.

Okay, I switched it to major, and switched the OS to "all" since you're seeing this on XP as well.
Severity: normal → major

To add a small clarification - this bug affects all parts of the address, not just the domain. My experience - Reproducible: Always 1. Start entering an address which isn't in any address book and pause at any point (including in the middle of a name) long enough for Thunderbird to autocomplete with the default domain. 2. Finish entering the address, and do anything that takes focus away from the 'To:' field (hit enter or tab, or click elsewhere) /before/ autocompletion has occurred. 3. Observe that whatever you last typed has been replaced with the default domain. This is on Linux (Slackware 10.0). There is also pathological but slightly different behavior if what you first type does match an address book entry - you get the address book entry even if the second part of what you type doesn't match - but I think there may be a separate bug open on that.
