I use the site above to read many PDF articles. The above link is just one of
thousands of articles on this astrophysics database. When I try to view a PDF
article by clicking on "Full Refereed Journal Article (PDF)," Mozilla always
asks me what I want to do with the article, disregarding the fact that I've told
it to use Acrobat Reader to open documents of type application/pdf, and told it
not to always ask me what to do with such documents.
This behavior seems linked to the fact that after clicking, a dialog box
appears, saying the unusual phrase "The site has asked that [file] be handled as
an attachment. It is of type application/pdf." The "Always perform this action"
checkbox is grayed out. I have no idea why this would be the case. I do know
that it is extremely annoying to read dozens of articles while always having to
click on the "OK" button after clicking on the link.
As a counterexample, I have verified that clicking on a "regular" pdf link, such
as http://www.mozilla.org/docs/dom/domref.pdf, does in fact bring up Acrobat
Reader without a dialog box intervening in the process.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to web site above
2. Click on "Full Refereed Journal Article (PDF)" link
Actual Results:
Dialog box acknowledging application/pdf, but disregarding my PDF preferences
Expected Results:
Open with Acrobat reader without bringing up a dialog box
