User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10/Firefox%20Setup%201.0PR.exe The machine in question is a Dell OptiPlex GX260 (2.4 GHz P4 - 512MB RAM) I had previously run version 0.9.2 as a test but left it for OS Integration issues. I had uninstalled the previous version with XP's Add/Remove Programs and then searched through the registry and deleted all Mozilla/Firefox references. Downloaded and installed 1.0PR today (Sept 29, 2004) allowed the application to be launched by the Installer. The application never appeared. Checked the task manager and the process Firefox.exe was running with aprox 14MB RAM, 0% CPU. I restarted and launched the application directly from the install directory to the same resuly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start application 2.Check Task Manager to see if process is running 3. Actual Results: Firefox never runs Expected Results: Should have opened browser Nothing I can think of... I receive no error messages. I'd really like to start using this broswer at work for web development.

blocked by AV software ? Try a latest nighly zip version, extract it and start Firefox.exe, see if that works.

Could 0.9.2 have left a corrupted profile behind, that 0.10 is now trying to read?
I have a Dell Dimension 4550 with Pentium 4 2.8 GHz. I already have Mozilla 1.7.2 Installed. PLEASE FIX!!!! I'm Really looking Foward to the Final Release of Firefox.

WinXP SP1; Mozilla of various flavors, Currently 1.7.3. Mozilla quicklaunch is enabled. Install Firefox as admin user. Start Firefox. Import Mozilla settings. OK. logoff/logon as 'normal' user and start firefox. It prompts to import settings, I choose mozilla. Import Window closes but browser never opens. Task manager shows firefox in the list. Trying to re-launch firefox adds a process but no windows open. I have to reboot computer, then start firefox. It works OK. Bookmarks, etc are imported OK.

I am seeing behaviour similar to that describe for this bug. Just recently I reinstalled everything on my parents PC (AMD Athlon XP 2600, 512MB ram). This was a fresh install to a newly formatted hard drive. I installed windows XP home and then used windows update to get it patched up to the latest service pack (2) and get the latest fixes. I then installed firefox 1.0. I set up XP with three users (one each for mum, dad, and sister). Firefox starts for dad and sister users but not for mum. The behaviour is as described in the original description. The firefox.exe process can be seen in the process list, but the browser never displays. As I mentioned, this is on a freshly installed OS so there are no registry entries from prior mozilla versions. No old libs or anything of that kind.
I experienced the behaviour described by the reporter also. After installing: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041221 Firefox/1.0+, the problem has disappeared.

I am using a HP Pavilion laptop with Windows XP, service pack 2 installed. CPU speed 1.6 GHZ, 504 RAM, and 62.2 Gigs memory free. I was using firefox 2.0.0.8 when I updated to firefox 2.0.0.9 I clicked on the icon but no window opened. A processes appears in the processes for everytime I click on the icon. If I reinstall fx 2.0.0.8 I can access the internet;email, banking, but when I try to connect to a game website it gets stuck on the screen "connecting to update server". This problem existed before the upgrade. I can not end the firefox processes, it says processes can not be ended now. I am not sure if this error message has anything to do with this problem;"need to update program definitions".
