Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a5) Gecko/20041002 Firefox/0.9.1+ I would be surprised if this is not a Dup. 1) I agree with your compromise. 2) I agree that some people might prefer a 'List Result Search' I prefer the existing interface in which a search term in the URL bar triggers the 'Single Result' search. For example, typing in 'Gentoo' and pressing return brings me to http://www.gentoo.org/ (without changing the URL bar, BTW), something which is not readily achieved any other way. I somehow doubt that your proposal is really an improvement - you can compare with using the Google Bar just to the right of the URL bar - which does give the results that you are looking for.
