User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 In previous versions of Netscape/Mozilla, typing upper case M (or an equivalent command in the Message menu) toggled the "read/unread" setting on whatever message(s) were selected, but now (in Thunderbird 0.8) it just marks them all as read. It's still possible to mark an individual message as unread by clicking the dot in the list-of-messages window, but the only way to do it for multiple messages is to manually click that dot for each one, which is unacceptable. Please either restore the old behavior of the "M" command or create a new command (perhaps "U") which marks all selected messages as unread. This applies to all folders including mail, news, RSS, and Local Folders. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
WFM with Thunderbird 20040913 on WinXP Pro SP2, except with lowercase 'm', not uppercase. If you press 'm' with multiple messages selected, the state of all of those messages seems to be set to the opposite of the state of the first message selected. For example, if you select a set of messages and the first (topmost) message is currently marked unread, when you press 'm' all of the selected messages will be marked read. Pressing 'm' again will then mark all of the selected messages unread.
Comment 1 is correct, lower-case 'm' toggles the read/unread state, and the multiple-selection case is kind of strange but consistent. I don't think upper- case M has ever been the hotkey, any more than the upper-case of any other unmodified hotkey (N, P, B, F, T, R) has. (Exception: Shift-J is Mark as Not Junk.)

when i reply to a message by selecting an unread one, i'd excpect it to be marked as read; this doesn't happen. if not by default behavior, then an option to do this. i've tried: options: mark message as read when viewing for 0/1 seconds (checked and unchecked) w xp sp1; t/b rc1
