Listcells, like listitems can have a type of checkbox, giving them checkbox
behavior.  A listcell with type set to checkbox cannot be toggled via clicking
on it.  You can change its checked status via JS/DOM however.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. View XUL code given in attached testcase in any Mozilla based browser.

Actual Results:  
Check box appears checked, as done via DOM, showing it can be toggled via DOM. 
Clicking on it however does not toggle its checked state.

Expected Results:  
The listcell's checked state should be toggled when clicked (checked, unchecked).

The <listcell type="checkbox"> was only designed to be used as anonymous content
of the <listitem type="checkbox"> and I don't see a general way of achieving the
effect you require without sacrificing accessibility.
