The Firefox update notification inside the application probably doesn't offer as
much visibility as we'd like -- especially for critical security updates. This
bug is requesting that when critical updates are available, we place an update
icon in the system tray as well.

Windows, various OEMs, anti-virus software, Java, and others are all using this
space for update notification. Firefox should do the same.

I don't think this is a particularly good idea, and I know Ben's not going to
work on it. What's wrong with making our app UI better, instead of infecting the
system tray with a non-system notification?

making our app better would be fine, but right now people are looking to their
system tray for notices of updates for all of their windows software and we're
not there.

If Ben/bsmedberg aren't going to work on this, it won't get done in the next
three weeks.  Minusing, the better software update UI should be very helpful for
this.

I think to place icon in the windows system tray should be convenient for users. Since I have tried many mail clients, such as Incredible, foxmail, etc, all of them   have this function and it really makes desktop look better. So I advice that the icon should be minimized to the windows system tray, rather then the windows task bar. Thanks.

Closing out bugs in the old style updater, which was superseded in Firefox 1.5.
