User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 email.sparklist.com hosts (using Lyrix) multiple newsgroups, each requiring membership to post (but not to read). TB 0.8 (20040913) permits only a single username/password for the server, not to individual newsgroups. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create an account on the news server, including username and password matching one of the newsgroups. 2. Attempt to post to another newsgroup on the same server requiring different username or password. Actual Results: Posting is refused. Expected Results: Allow multiple accounts to the same server, permitting each account to have its own username and password, account name, and associated subscriptions. Multiple accounts to a single server also allow creating separate folders for related newsgroup subscriptions, with the folder name (as specified via tha "Account Name" field) describing the subscription group, not the server. This is very useful feature in Outlook Express.
This issue is definately a confirmed issue*, under v1.0.2. The server dialog under the Acoout Manager NEEDS to include a username/password section!!! I have found the lack of this feature a major drawback, and it is essentially the only feature currently that forces me to still use OE, which I despise. OE has no problem with multiple accounts under the same server being created, because it can use the username/password to differentiate, see example below. When I try to create two accounts in TB with the same name, it gives me an Alert: "An account with that user name and server name already exists. Please enter a different user name and/or server name." Unfortunately, since there is no place to enter the username and password anywhere in the dialog box, I have no way to change the user name for this account. * See similar/related bugs/chamge requests: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=275433, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=286700, and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293106. ============================================================== In OE username/password access is set under the Server tab: Server Information--------------------------- Server name: privatenews.bentley.com |x| The server requires me to log on Account name: buildingauc Password: **************** |x| Remember password | | Log on using Secure Password Authentication Please advise, ASAP, thank you, John

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. The latest beta releases can be obtained from: Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/ Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html Seamonkey: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/
(In reply to comment #2) Scott, Hello, I believe you are assigned to this particular defect. I got the message below recently. I have since downloaded the 1.5 beta, but it still does not appear to have remedied this situation. Is there any additional information I can provide that will assist in getting this issue resolved? This a definate need I have to fully utilize Thunderbird and eliminate any reliance on Microsoft Outlook Express. Please advise, John

I have the same problem in the RSS aggregator. Basically, it seems to look up the hostname only, and if it finds a hit, it uses that. During subscription creation, there is no provision to enter login credentials. As such, There is no provision to have multiple accounts on the same hostname. To reproduce it, all you have to do is set up 2 dummy RSS files and have basic auth require different login credentials for both. Until 2 days ago, you could use something like livejournal's RSS feeds, but they're all on unique hostnames now. This may be an RFE rather than a bug. Either way, I'd like to see it corrected as well. NOTE: Version for this bug should be updated to show 1.5?

Three true comments, each referencing three different requests: Comment 0 (description): May either be "Make logins per-newsgroup (or subaccount)" or "allow multiple accounts to reference the same server/port." I'd probably be willing to accept patches on either of these topics, but it is not something that I will work on in the near future. See also bug 94962. Comment 1: You are talking about adding a username/password to the account manager pane, which is not what comment #0 talks about. Find another bug. Comment 4: RSS != news (NNTP). Find another bug. Changing information to better reflect bug.

(In reply to comment #5) > Comment 0 (description): May either be "Make logins per-newsgroup (or > subaccount)" or "allow multiple accounts to reference the same server/port." > I'd probably be willing to accept patches on either of these topics, but it is > not something that I will work on in the near future. See also bug 94962. In the time since I wrote this comment, I discovered that this is already possible via a hidden pref <server>.singleSignon; Therefore, all that this asks for now is to have UI.
