Pressing backspace does not take you back, like the Windows version. Instead the
cursor disappears.

I am kind of new to mac, so i thought that backspace was reserverd for something
else, but it works as expected in Safari and Opera.
Summary: Backspace does not take you back → [Mac] Backspace does not take you back
Camino does this.

I think that the backspace key is interpreted as typing which is why the cursor
is shielded.

Cmd-{ will take you back.
to some, backspace is the opposite of space (which happens to be pagedown,
making it pageup). the backspace as go back idea was a win ie-ism. i haven't
tried it in mac ie, and you didn't specify. so... out of curiosity, what happens
if you use backspace in macie?
on Mac/IE, Delete goes back a page, Shift-Delete goes forward a page.
