Sorry, someone who understands buzilla is probably going to need to process this
a bit.

The interface for associating downloaded files with applications is convoluted.
I'll start with Preferences Menu / Downloads Section / File Types.

I should be able to add a new item to the list via a button. Currently, to add a
file type to this list, one must download a file of that type, select a
permanent place to download it to and then go into the pref menu to alter the
entry.

Further, the file type / application selection seems to be broken. Either from
the file type list or when i download that file type, I am unable to select ANY
application to open my file. However, in the preferences menu i can select "open
with default app" which does work.

Reproducible: Always

This bug is a duplicate of bug 225574. That bug is fixed in latest builds.
