Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Build Identifier: Few days ago, I bought new notebook Toshiba Satellite A50-512 with preinstalled Windows XP Home Edition. I have installed all the updates from Windows Update (including Service Pack 2 for XP). After that I have downloaded and installed Mozilla Thunderbird 0.8. I have set up email account and downloaded messages from my mailbox. Then I have created some message filters, but when I have chosen Run filters on folder from Tools menu nothing happened. No dialog window appeared. I have got the same problem on my PC in work (XP with SP1). I have tested this issue with the latest branch build Thunderbird (20041009) and it still occurs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Windows XP Home Edition on clean system 2. Install all updates from Windows Update including SP2 for XP 3. Install Thunderbird 0.8 4. Set up email account and download messages 5. Set up few message filters which moves messages from Inbox to the Inbox sub folders 6. From tools menu choose run filters on folder Actual Results: Nothing happens and that's the problem. No dialog window is displayed. Expected Results: Probably a dialog window should be displayed to allow me tu run filters on folder. During the installation process I've choosed custom installation method and added RSS support.

You're not supposed to get a dialog, but all the enabled filters for the account should be run on the messages in whichever folder you have selected.
Summary: nothing happens when I click on Run filters on folders position in Tools menu → nothing happens when I click on Run Filters on Folder

(In reply to comment #1) > You're not supposed to get a dialog, but all the enabled filters for the account > should be run on the messages in whichever folder you have selected. OK, My mistake but it doesn't matter because filters doesn't work.

I can confirm this Bug, reproduced with Thuderbird 1.0 Final and Trunk version 0.6+ (20050213) Tools -> "Run Filters on Folder" won't work for me too, "Run now" from Message Filters dialog runs fine. Steps to reproduce are nearly the same: 1. Set up email account and download messages 2. Set up few message filters which moves messages from Inbox to the Inbox sub folders 3. From tools menu choose "Run filters on folder" Actual Results: Nothing happens, I have to go to Tools -> Message Filters and push "Run now", then the filters work Expected Results: Filters should run when I choose "Run filters on folder"

I would have expected that this would be fixed by Bug #280250

Is this problem being seen on IMAP (xref bug 193000) or POP mail accounts?

Mine is on POP. I happened to look at a few filters, and sometimes they have NO criteria in the select box. If I close and reopen Thunderbird, it is there. I deleted out those filters and readded to a new one before I realized they came back on a reopen.

What I've seen here (v1.0.2, 20050317) is that if you run ONE filter using the "Tools->Message Filters->Run Now" button, it works. If you try to run MULTIPLE filters from that box, nothing happens. As an earlier reply said, running all filters via "Tools->Run Filters on Folder" does work, but that runs all filters; a user might only want to run a subset.

this worked for me using 04/29 1.1 nightly on Windows xp. I had two filters configured for the imap account in question.

I saw it when one of IMAP accounts was hanging (waiting for timeout). Even though Thunderbird creates several TCP connections, for some reasons accounts can affect each other.

Getting crashes when trying to run filters now. See other bug referenced in my post above this one.

Now noticing some filters work, and others don't. One which doesn't is titled "no new properties" (it is to put real estate list messages into one folder). It has several different criteria to look for, but it is only working on one or two criteria.

This one is still not working right yet. Sometimes the filters work, other times they don't.
