Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040927 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040927 I'm not able to download any binary file any more after installing 1.8a4. Whatever I open directly in the browser window works (HTML, plain text), but clicking on any link to binary files (should it be via HTTP, FTP or even stored on local drive and accessed via file://) is either ignored, or an error message about missing temporary file is shown for files with known application handlers (like opening .doc file - Word is started as usually, but complains about not having found the file in my temporary directory). The file is just not created at all. If I ask for Saving the link target explicitely, I'm asked for the path, but that's it again - no file is created there. If I configure Mozilla to open Download Manager for downloads, it doesn't get open at all. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open any page with links to binary files (e.g. Mozilla releases) 2. Right-click on one of links and select "Save target" 3. Choose path to save the file to. Actual Results: Nothing - no file is created, no progress window or Download Manager window opened. Expected Results: Download the file. I didn't change my configuration too much after having installed the new version (everything worked correctly for 1.7.1 installed before), just enabled the new feature of automatic logon to proxy server and local intranet (shared sign-on for Windows). However, the problem appears even if working with local (file://) content not going through proxy, so it doesn't seem to be related to that feature. In addition, I currently have installed the following add-ons: - Checky - Launcher - ImageZoom - Calender

Can you try deleting your compreg.dat in your components folder and see if that makes downloads working again? You might also try going to the URL about:plugins and then try to download again.

Yes, deleting the file helped. Sorry to bug you with this, I was really lost. Does deleting this file have any side-effects? If not, wouldn't it be better to have it deleted automatically during installation (I used the installer version)? Thanks for your assistance. Tomas

Well, this error shouldn't happen at all and it also happens when not upgrading sometimes :/ *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 227439 ***
