Details
In build 2000.02.02.15 (and not prior builds) mozilla -mail freezes if there is no mail profile existing. (May or may not freeze if there is a profile, but I can't get mail to work to create one :) Freezes at nNCL: registering deferred (0) WEBSHELL+ = 1 *** Timing layout processes on url: 'about:blank', webshell: 007FADD0 WEBSHELL+ = 2 *** Timing layout processes on url: 'chrome://messenger/content/', webshell: 00828DD0 Parse Time (this=00C18AC0): Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.050 DTD Time: Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.050 Tokenize Time: Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.000 Content creation time (this=00834320): Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.000 Reflow time (this=00C0EAC0): Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.050 Frame construction plus style resolution time (this=00C0EAC0): Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.060 Style resolution time (this=00C0EAC0): Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.110 Parse Time (this=00835A10): Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.050 Tokenize Time: Real time 0:0:0, CP time 0.000 Total (Layout + Page Load) Time (webshell=007FADD0): Real time 0:0:1, CP time 1.050 Then it freezes!

I think we expect the mail account wizard to come up in this circumstance. Reassign to alecf. Nominating for beta1.

Sorry, this is a fairly bogus bug, I thought for some reason that a "Base" install in windows-installer would include mail/news it doesn't. And of course when I try an run mozilla -mail.. its not gonna be able to run it. Sorta a bug, but not really. might want mozilla -mail to be ignored if mail/news is not open. also might want to change the description of "Base" anyways. marking as minor, and taking off beta1.
Severity: major → minor
Keywords: beta1
Summary: mozilla -mail freezes → mozilla -mail freezes (on no mail install)

seth fixed this with his generic command-line handling stuff. reassign to seth to test/mark worksforme.

Grace - are you testing startup of the base installed product (w/out mail and news)? If so, I'd like to change qa contact to you.

marking this fixed. with out mail, the -mail command line handler will never get registered, and would therefore be ignored.

On a Nav only install- build 2000030517- running mozilla -mail launches seamonkey navigator only. It does not hang, does nothing on tasks/mail (as expected) Should navigator be launched with -mail option?

yes, nav should be launched if you -mail on a build with out mail. it's like doing "netscape -foobarcheese" foobarcheese is not a valid command line option, so it just starts up.
